What tire size with these stats?

I'm trying to stick to 17's as right now I don't want to do any suspension work, and some lower profile tires w/o risking scraping anything/bottoming out or any of that stuff we laugh at Honda's for!

Rim stats -

Product Number: 21417717
Size: 17x7
Product Description: 17X7 MR4 GN MTL 5X100,4.5+40MM
Backside Spacing (in/mm): 5.5/140
Offset: 40 mm

1990 TSI all stock as of yet. I've searched the forums yes, but I didn't find any articles dealing with 17x7's on a 1g stock with tire comparos.

My biggest concern is something rubbing suspension parts as the stock 16x6's look really close to the springs....Any ideas would be appreciated!

If I'm reading the values correctly, then I'd be more concerned about the lugs matching. We (all) have 5x114, you know, not 5x100.

Hm...

I've called around to a few places that sell these rims and they all say they fit right on the 5 lug patterns of DSM's. I called 3 places, Discount Tire, Firestone, and my friend's shop, all said they fit. The www.motegiracing.com site also shows they fit. Maybe they aren't exact stats listed on the tires on the website? Pep Boys also said they're a direct fit *shrug* If you search Ebay all the sellers list those rims as fitting DSM's also.

I think you're asking what size tires you should get so they're the same overall diameter as the stock ones. If so, check http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I saw that...

my main concern is just nothing rubbing since these tires are 7' wide and the stock are only 6' wide. And I don't plan on doing any suspension work now....it looks like 225/45/17's would fit just about exact?
