I had them on my lude in 205/40/17. they were terribly badass! They are great tires! they gripped very good for the price. i mean c'mon they are yokohama! I am a die hard yokohama fan. but yes, i thought they were very good tires. Great dry traction, great wet traction, but i would imagine snow would be horendous! so i would make sure to have some winter tires! good luck with the purchase.

Hey Kyle, this is Stephen. You know, in Florida. What is this stuff you're talking about called "snow?"

Thanks for the reassurance on the tires though. I'm getting them for $560 mounted, balanced, and with free rotate and balance, and a replacement warranty.

yeah i noticed that was you, so i figured i would help you out. haha, you have the pleasure of having summer tread on all year. lucky bastard! anyway, i loved the tires , i hoep you enjoy them!
peace

I've not tried the new ones, but I ran the original AVS. Excellent tire, just a bit noisy (only a bit, nothing hideous).

But did you see the Pradas are the same price?

I did, however if I buy them by 1/31 I'll receive %20 off the total price. So it is hard to pass on that since I just got rims and tires 6 months ago (without a camber kit:thumbdown). Money is a little tight.

Thanks a lot so far for the replies. Does anyone else have any input?

excellent tires! they grip well and awesome both at the track and on the street. Get them if you can.

The Yokohama AVS ES100's are a great tire for overall driving. I've owned a set and there OK. For drag racing as soon as you go beyond the 300whp barrier these tires WILL not hold up. If you plan on only going with the 16g turbo you will be fine but ANY BIGGER your gonna lose traction very easily so for the price i would go with Falken AZENIS which are the best Street drag tires except for Drag Radials that i've come across. For the price not too many tires can compare with the AZENIS BUT the only downfall is the tread wears very quickly!:( I've owned 2 sets of the Azenis and are very happy with the tires. If your wondering i am putting more than 425+ WHP to my GS-T and these can hold up very well for street tires.

I would definately recommend them. Much better than the Kuhmo's I had previously. I would also recomend going with a 225/45/17 size as this is the closest combination to the 16" stock wheel/tire size that your car is calibrated for. 215/40/17 will make a smaller rotating diameter causing your odometer to accumulate miles at a higher rate.

These tires are awesome, I can hold more speed into corners now when compared to the Kumho 712's that I had before. For the price they can't be beat.

I had the 712's before. I just wasn't impressed with how quickly they wore out.

For an update though I just had them installed. I went with 225/45/17 ES100's. I would have done that originally but I didn't check to see if they made that size before my original post. I'll let you guys know how I like them in a few days. Thanks for all who contributed.:thumb:

what else would you buy? Michelin? Pirelli? or another overpriced braggin rights tire like one of those?

Kumho MX (only good kumho street tire EVER made, 712s are crap)
Falken Azenis
Pirelli Neros aren't too terribly expensive.
BFG KDWs are pretty good, but again more money.

I honestly think that across the board average of tire attributes the Kumho MX's beat the BFG KDW's before factoring in the price difference... Tire tests show this.

The Kuhmo MX had performance very close to the BFG when it was dry yet spanked both the BFG and a Yoko AVS sport in the wet. It also rode quieter and smother than the BFG. Maybe the BFG KDW2's would have done better wet..

The yoko AVS sport is a closer match to the MX than an ES100...

ES100's are in the same catagory as 712's.

I'm still looking at other brands... Anyone ever run toyos?

I never said any tire was better, simply throwing out tires in the same overall catagory.
I've driven on KDW nt in a 225/40r18 on a IS300 on a autoX style course. They're a good tire overall, but definetly don't have as much overall grip as MXs. However they will last longer, like the ES100s.
I have 245/40r17 on my car and have been happy with them, but I suspect I'll get about 12-17k out of them. For some people on here that extra amount of cornering force might not be worth the tread life.

The ES100 is NOT in the same catagory as the 712, well maybe it's under "high performance" on the tire rack. When you look up the 712s online it ought to show you a picture of a bucket of grease. Seriously you might as well buy some $50 H rated tires, you'll get the same level of performance out of them. The ES100s are MUCH better than the 712s in all aspects.

If it is dry they ought to have slightly more grip than the MX. If it is wet.....

There is as big a difference between the ES100 and an AVS sport. AVS sports are some sticky buggers.

I have 712's as cheap tires go they are excellent.. The ES100s are better... It's just yoko's AVS sports do to a yoko ES100 what the 100 does to a 712.

Within tire class

Kumho 712 < ES100

AVS sport < Kumho MX

Comparing all

Kumho 712 < yoko ES100 < yoko AVS sport < Kumho MX

Now if it never rains < G-force KD (not the KDw)

I'm still looking for a test of the KDW2's the first KDW's (hence the 2) got owned by the MX.

I like the KDW2 pattern... The rack does'nt call them max performance but I have a hunch they can hang with the MX in the wet and dry. The KD (no W=wet) will still own the dry.

Like a cross between a drag radial and a rain tire?

BFG engineers have repeatidly told me that the nt KDW performs exactly the same as the old tread pattern. I don't fully believe them, but after driving the KDWnt it definetly isn't quite on the same level as the MX.
The main advantage in my eyes of the MX is the fact that it has a higher heat range. The falken azenis tends to go off after 4 or 5 hot laps, not a big deal for autoX, but definetly for open track days. The KD and MX are the only true street tires I know of that have this quality.
The KD does have a STIFF sidewall, allowing it to operate at a lower slip angle and increasing feedback in comparision to the MX. I can't say the extra price is justified though. I've driven a 350Z with KDs on it around a different course and I definetly like the feel of them, but I couldn't pay over $200 a tire for them. It's just to much money when you consider the fact that you could get a cheap street tire and seperate race tires for just slightly more. And not hydroplane at 30mph ;)
Oh and on a plain wet road the KD does fine, it's just the supper low void ratio (20% outer, 30% inner) that makes it hydroplane very easily.

I personally am not a huge fan of the AVS sport. It is a good tire, but it is overpriced. It is no longer on the cutting edge like it used to be, the price should come down accordingly.

I have used both tires and I prefer the KDW2's hands down over the ES100's. They are both on the louder side but the KDW2's seem to give me more grip on takeoff and give better feedback. I haven't had the KDW's long enough to evaluate but the ES100's wore out way too fast for me. For the money you can't beat the ES100 but there are better tires out there it's just that price is directly proportional to performance.

Here's another update. I've had the tires for almost a week and so far they have overcome all obstacles. Rain, daily red light launches, 95MPH on ramp escapades, and they fit my rims better. (I had 235/45/17 tires before, my rims are 17x7, I thought the guy that sold me them said 17x8.)

Great tire for the money. I'm very satisfied.

i am glad to here you liked them! i loved those tires! enjoy

I just wore out a set-- had them just over a year and put around 20K miles on them. Good handling and very good grip, but didn't last as long as I thought they should. I wasn't expecting them to go 50K or anything, since they're a performance tire, but still they wore out pretty fast, IMO.

i have evs 100s id say a far superior tire to the kumho 712 ..and i had the mischilin pilot sports b4 the evs 100s the tires look almost identical tread pattern wise the es 100s seem to work better for drag racin than did the mischlins .. but for the price id say u cant beat the es100s
