I’m considering submitting a tech article to aid newbies selecting wheel and tire upgrades for the first time. I know what worked for me but I would like to hear from some of you guys who upgraded wheel and tire size. All responses are welcome but in particular if you have a setup that is unusual or if you are dissatisfied. I’ll start things off with my set-up. Thanks in advance for your help.

Car Model:
Wheel Type:
Wheel Size:
Tire Type:
Tire Size:
Fit: No modifications required/ Had to modify _________.
Why I made this wheel selection:
Satisfaction with setup:

Car Model: 1997 Spyder GST
Wheel Type: ADR M-Classic
Wheel Size: 18 x 8.5 40mm offset
Tire Type: Kumho Ecsta 712
Tire Size: 235 /40/18
Fit: Had to roll rear fender flanges.
Why I made this wheel selection: Had the appearance I wanted at a good price.
Satisfaction with setup: Very satisfied. Nice wide looking wheels and great looks.

Car Model: 1992 Eagle Talon NT (w/turbo)
Wheel Type: Stock Rims off a 1993 Ford Probe GT
Wheel Size: 16" I forget the offset.
Tire Type: Goodyear Eagle HP
Tire Size: 205/55/16
Fit: No modifications required.
Why I made this wheel selection: They are lighter and look a hell of a lot better that the stockers I had. Plus the offset of them moved them out a bit giving the car a widerstance that not only improved the look of the car by filling in wheel wells, but noticeably improved cornering.
Satisfaction with setup: Very satisfied. I love the wheels for reasons stated above. The tires offer plenty of grip and reletively good tread life. In rain they have very, very good grip. At $155 a piece they can be pretty pricey but I would definitly get them again.

Can I play too?

Car Model: 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX
Wheel Type: Ray's Engineering Gram Lights 57C
Wheel Size: 17x7.5 with approximately 40 offset
Tire Type: Yokohama AVS Intermediate (Discontinued)
Tire Size: 235/40/17
Fit: No modifications required
Why I made this wheel selection: I wanted a low cost, light weight, high quality, ultra high durability wheel and tire setup.
Satisfaction with setup: Good. The wheels themselves are beauifully made, balanced, and worth the money I spent on them. They've managed to take the abuse of the very harsh, pothole filled roads with 40 series tires, taking absolutely no damage. What would've killed my stock wheels is fine on the Ray's Wheels. My only regret is going only 7.5 width. I really wish I went 8.5 inch wide now to run even wider tires. As far as the tires, they were 50 bucks each, so if they stayed on the wheel, and didn't blow out in 2 minutes, they were worth it. They were the previous years "top of the line" tire which have a pretty high wear rate. Can get finicky in the rain, but I like that because I can start sliding the car more. Excellent grip in the dry, by far better than the previous Kumho 712's, Goodyear RSA's, and a very stiff sidewall. I would reccomend Yokohama brand tires to anyone looking for a good perforamance tire that isn't rediculously overpriced like Goodyear tends to be.

Car Model: 99 Eclipse GS
Wheel Type: Enkei 5+
Wheel Size: 17X7 40mm offset
Tire Type: Yokohama Avid H-4's
Tire Size: 235/45/17
Fit: Perfect, until I lowered it 2", then I had to roll the rear fender lips.
Why I made this wheel selection: They looked good and the price was right.
Satisfaction with setup: It handles great and looks great. I couldn't be happier.

Car Model: 90 GSX
Wheel Type: Enkei RPO1 (discontinued)
Wheel Size: 17x8 38mm offset, 17lbs
Tire Type: Kumho MX
Tire Size: 245/40r17
Fit: Didn't have to modify anything
Why I made this wheel selection: lightweight, fit a 245 while not sticking out of the fender far, and the price was right
Satisfaction with setup: very, looks good and works great

Car Model: 1999 Eclipse GST
Wheel Size: 17x8, don't remember offset
Tire Type: Perelli Pzero Nero
Tire Size: 215/45/17
Fit: Perfect
Why I made this wheel selection: Had the appearance I wanted at a good price. And also during this time I was the only one riding on a DSM with Millie Miglias
Satisfaction with setup: Very satisfied. Nice wide looking wheels and great looks. And pretty good traction for a open differential FWD.

17"x7.5"(i really do think they are wider) gunmetal grey rota battles, 5x114.3 yadda yadda 40mm offset. weigh 18lbs each and look great. couldnt be happier with the wheels.

235/40/17 yokohama avs es100s, GREAT tire, wouldnt get anything else in their price range. these just *barely* clear the top part of the spindle though where it connects to the upper control arm.

all in all ive been lucky on the whole wheel/tire situation. i got the right shit the first time.

Car Model: 95 gsx
Wheel Type: 3g rx-7 FD rims (2 sets)
Wheel Size: 16x8, 50mm offset
Tire Type: khumo v700 victoracer, nitto 450
Tire Size: 245/45/16, 245/45/16
Fit: Have to run spacer and 19mm lug nuts. longer studs are nice to haves. as long as you don't drop the car too far and have stiff suspension, there is no rubbing on the fenders.
Why I made this wheel selection: $300 for 14lb rims!
Satisfaction with setup: completly happy. i bought 2 set of rims for the price most people spend on one. the khumos are great, not too happy with the nittos. i would like to get a 3rd set to run hoosiers.

OK. This is what I have so far. I assume it's okay to list your screen names? Let me know if not. I could really use some more variations for the list, especially those with extreme setups.

I don't mind. I just want to add that even after 4,620 miles, the tires still look and react as if I just got them. And other than the camber kit I had to install due to lowering, I've had no problems. :)

Car Model: Eclipse GST
Wheel Type: Stock 94' Mazda RX7
Wheel Size:16x8 (measured 8.75" wide though)
Tire Type:Yoko's ES100
Tire Size: 225/45/16
Fit: Needed 5/16 wheel spacers
Why I made this wheel selection: They weigh 14lbs and got the entire set with good tires for cheaper then the same size in VOLK TE37's
Satisfaction with setup: Very happy, alot better then the stock rims with crappy kumho 712's.

Car Model: 90 GSX
Wheel Type: Volk GT-P
Wheel Size: 17x8 38 offset
Tire Type: Kumho Ecsta Supra
Tire Size: 245/45/17
Fit: I have Koni's in stock struts up front and it rubs, but moving to JIC's soon. Also, the rears rub a tad when doin a hard launch, but who's complaining?
Why I made this wheel selection: Gives me a hard on
Satisfaction with setup: Gives me a hard on

Car Model: 1995 Eclipse GS
Wheel Type: Excel DL-46
Wheel Size: 17x7 40mm offset
Suspension: Stock
Tire Type: Kumho Ecsta
Tire Size: 215/45/17
Fit: No modifications required
Why I made this wheel selection: A great looking and inexpensive combination that reminds me of the old TSW-Blade
Satisfaction: Excellent in wet or dry conditions.

Great Idea!!!!!

Car Model: 92 Eclipse GSX

Wheel Type: Excel TZ7

Wheel Size: 17x7 45mm

Tire Type: Toyo FZ4

Tire Size: 235/45/17

Fit: Had to modify the fit by "fixing" the wheels with H&R 5mm
spacers.

Why I made this wheel selection:
Great deal ($1K for everything except spacers), I loved the
look of the combo.

Satisfaction with setup:
Overall I love the setup. Great all season/performance
tire, great price. Had I got the 35mm like I wanted, I would
be perfectly satisfied, so I am still a little peeved that I
ordered 35mm offset rims and got 45mm. But, once
mounted wheelmax wouldn't take them back, no ifs ands or
buts. Pretty light wheels (19), nice and simple look. Need
to lower my car just a little to reduce wheel well.

Car Model: 1991 Eclipse GSX
Wheel Type: Racing Hart C4 1 piece
Wheel Size: 18x7.5 with a 42mm offset
Suspension: Ground Control - lowered about 1.75"
Tire Type: Yoko Parada Spec 2
Tire Size: 225/40/18
Fit: No modifications required.
Why I made this wheel selection: Can't beat the looks. The handling is great, but I'll probably try the S-03 Potenzas next for a little more sidewall. I had planned on getting a second set of track wheels anyway, so weight wasn't a big concern. I believe these ones weigh in just over 20 lbs. But you don't buy 18" wheels and expect to have anything very lightweight. They're also not optimal for the track or the strip. That's why I'll be getting a track set soon.
Satisfaction with setup: Very satisfied. There's only one other wheel I'd probably go with on this car, the Volk TE37, but those are pretty expensive. Anyway, I'll have a set of 17" Kosei K1's to take to the track soon so I won't have to scuff these ones up.

I think people should also list their shock/spring/coilover setup too, so you know how low their car is. No modifications for stock doesn't mean it's the same for someone with Eibach Sportlines.

has anyone tried 225/45/17 on a 17-7.5 rim with a 40 offset on a 2gen with a eibach pro kit and if so howed it work out any probs? thanks

Car Model: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI AWD
Wheel Type: Kosei Seneca
Wheel Size: 17 x 8 (38mm)
Tire Type: Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s
Tire Size: 235 /40/17
Fit: No problems :)
Why I made this wheel selection: Got the rims used. I wanted 17s for the room for a Big Brake upgrade later (Baer 13" rotor)
Why I made this tire selection: I wanted tires with the most grip and S03s were #1, but I went with these because of better wet grip, a little quieter and longer lasting.
Shocks / Springs: AGX/Ground Controls
Satisfaction with setup: Very satisfied. (Of course any 8" wide wheel would be an improvement over the 6" stocker). I'm finding the car sticks through turns as fast as I care to take them!

Car Model:1995 Eclipse GS
Wheel Type:Konig Verdicts
Wheel Size:18x8
Tire Type:Yokohama Parada Spec 2
Tire Size: 215/40ZR18
Fit: No modifications required
Why I made this wheel selection: got them at a great price
Satisfaction with setup:amazing in the dry and on turns

Look at the front wheels in my pic, same size tire on a 17x7 with a 42 offset... should be about the same, I believe.

Car Model: 90 Talon w/ JICs
Wheel Type: ALT-177 (discontinued)
Wheel Size: 17x7
Tire Type: Azenis Sport
Tire Size: 225/45/17
Fit: No modifications required
Why I made this wheel selection: cheap! :D
Satisfaction with setup:
Pretty heavy compared to the FN01RCs even though the FN01RCs are wider and have bigger tires but ok for cruising around town I guess

Wheel Type: 5Zigen FN01RC +43mm offset
Wheel Size: 17x8
Tire Type: Yokohama A032R (soft compound)
Tire Size: 235/40/17
Fit: Barely fit in the rear, ended up running 3mm spacers in the rear just to be safe. No problem in the front. Would go with +35mm offset if I could buy these rims all over again so I wouldn't need spacers.
Why I made this wheel selection:
Hard to find 17x8 rims that don't cost a fortune
Satisfaction with setup:
Great for track use .... FN01RCs are pretty light and cheap. If I ever mess one up I'll just buy another. A032Rs are a definitely a good step up from street tires, even the Azenis, which is better than just about everything else I've tried such as the old AVS intermediates, Potenza RE71s, comp TAs etc. can't remember the other tire models (all discontinued now anyway). just about everyone I've talked to say the A032Rs are not as fast as other R compounds though. I wouldn't know though, haven't tried anything else yet, but I like them so far.

hey u all i know this thread is hella old but i just need to get some info on some rims.

5zigen FNO1RC 17x8 with 35+ or 43+ off set on my 2G, tire size i was thinking 235/40 or 235/45

I have Koni Yellows with eibach sportline spring

Right now i have stock rims with 225/55/16 and they are good fitment,

thanks alot it would really help out alot

Any combination of those wheels and tires would fit. My preference would be the 235/45/17's on the 43mm offset.

Car Model: 97 Talon TSi

Wheel Type: Mille Miglia Evo 5

Wheel Size: 17/8 40mm offset

Tire Type: Yokohama ES100

Tire Size: 235/40/17

Fit: Had to grind some inner fender lip in the rear because my car is lowered...no other problems.

Why I made this wheel selection: Awesome design....suits my car perfectly.

Satisfaction with setup: Tire diameter is quite smaller and throws off my speedometer by 4%. Other than that everything is good.

Damn it, I didn't see how old this thread was...oh well.
