I have a 95' Eclipse GS-T I have wheel gabb and hate it. I want a CHEAP way to lower my car... is springs the answer? Do i need shocks? I know cutting your spings is a bad idea but I want something that will corner a bit better and drop the car.... suggestions? Thanks!

DO NOT cut your springs - It is unsafe, and dangerous!!! If you just want a cheap way to lower your car then any typical lowering spring will work - Intrax, Eibach, ect. If you want improved handling then I would suggest to also upgrade your shocks at the same time, if you don't you will have less shock/strut travel and will more than likely wear out your OEM shocks/struts faster...

If you want to have somewhat decent control of the car, the VERY cheapest I would go would be ground control coilovers with a decent shock. The Lowering Spring sets made for our cars rather suck, badly.

If you don't care about cornering ability though, go with lowering springs.

Why is it unsafe and dangerous?

It can lead to unpredicatable handling. Since the nice, perfectly engineered spring is now hacked, it will not work like it was designed to and that can be dangerous in the right instances.

Guess what? Just about anything you do to your car can be unsafe and/or dangerous if done incorrectly. Cutting your springs is no different. If you do it right, then it's fine.

ps. if you think that engineered-in understeer is "nice" ....

I'm sure ####ing up the spring rates is also "fine". But if you want to ghetto up your car by cutting the springs be my guest.

ps. if you're gonna try to insult me, dont trail off at the end, just be a big boy and do it. :thumb:

My eliptical comment was more aimed at Mitsubishi. You said something about engineering; I was pointing out that they created a car for the great unwashed, with so much engineered-in understeer that it might as well be a mini-van.

As to the rest, I'm not in the mood for any more crap. If you can't do the math to cut the springs in the right place, that's your problem.
