o.k., i was working on one of my rear caliper and notice that the rubber around the piston has a cut in it, about 1/16 of an inch. now, i'm wondering if this is gonna cost me alot of trouble if i just let it be like that and re-install it.
any suggestion? thanks..

Assuming that you're talking about the boot and not the seal between the piston and bore (which has to be true, right?), it shouldn't be a problem. Some fancy brakes don't even have boots. It's there to catch leaking brake fluid and keep grit from getting between the piston and bore. Deal with it some other day.

The O-ring will just wear a little faster. Put it on the back burner of things to do and check it once a month. Have somene apply the brakes while you take a look for leaks. You should be fine for quite some time, I did this with V8 Quattro for about a year before I got around to it.

Are you guys kidding, your bsically telling someone who has a possible leaking brake to not worry about it?

Look you can get rebuild kits at the parts stor for around 3 dollars. Take off the caliper and put an air hose to it, it will blow out the piston. Simply replace the oring and boot. Don't wait till the brake fails anb dumps fluid all over the rotor and possibly start a fire.

No. We are saying that an imperfect boot isn't a big deal. If it's the actual O-ring (i.e., the seal between the piston and bore), then, of course, he must fix that at once. But I really doubt that this is what he's talking about.

thanks for all the comments and opinions guys:thumb: ,. but since i still have the caliper out of the car, i will go ahead a buy the rebuilt kit and replace that rubber around the piston(boot).

thank you...
