I know I've done the search but cannot get the answer I am looking for. Does the coil over kits use the stock shocks or do they sit on their own? Is a coil over a shock with a short spring on top?I s it worth doing a conversion or just buying a already built set? I am sorry if I piss anyone off just I would like to know and couldn't get the answer I was looking for:thumb:

Most coil-over kits are just a threaded sleeve that goes on your shocks plus the springs. Some also include a new spring hat. Other kits have the option of also buying new upper mounting plates.

The good reason to get coil-overs is that you can now run real race springs, such as Eibach ERSs or HyperCoils. They also allow you to adjust height, of course, but if you are trying to make the car handle better, it's the higher-rate springs that you're after. However, as soon as you get higher-rate springs, you'll need better shocks.

Plan this out. Decide on your goals and your budget and then start doing the research. Example of why: let's say you go with Ground Control coil-overs and just take the default spring rates of 450/300 and get Tokiko Illumina shocks. Then you discover that 450/300 is lousy for autoXing, to which you become addicted. So you up the springs to 500/450, to get the car to turn. But this is too much for your Illuminas, so you dump them and get Koni Yellows. Then you discover that the coil-over sleeves for Illuminas and Konis are different. By now you're out $1500 and the set-up still doesn't work.

And for that you could have gotten off-the-shelf Teins or, almost, JICs
