lower stress bar [Merged 12-8]

I was planning on buying a RRE rear strut bar to accompany my front strut bar. While on the site, I saw the front lower stress bar. For $109, doesn't seem like a bad deal. Any opinions on it? Is it worth it? Any help would be appreciated.

I have it. I didn't notice any difference, and I do open track events. That is, I didn't notice anything negative or positive. It's just there getting in the way of me removing my downpipe from time to time Ah well, I'll leave it on there, hehe.

I've got RRE front lower tie and rear tie bar. I put them both on at the same time. I didn't really notice alot of change but I think I was expecting a night and day difference. I already had upper tie, tokico's, 17's and a few other light mods so I didn't notice alot. Maybe on a heavily worn vehicle or older one you might be able to feel some diffence.

I paid 79 for mine too and i noticed that i can take turn a lot quicker without my tires screeching i recommend it. But the only down side to it is that ur ground clearance will be lower, i scrapped mine the first day I installed it.

Kind of old thread but did anyone running this bar notice any improvement in their launch? Particularly fwd vehicles.

I don't suspect this would have any impact on your drag launches. The bar is to reduce chassis flex, to make the suspension react more predictably.

There is one good reason to bring this thread back up: the SEB of the SCCA has recently been screwing with the STB rules (which apply to ST, SP, and SM). The RRE lower front bar could easily be seen as illegal, since it doesn't connect between suspension pick-up points. In the past, no-one cared; now, they might.

It looks like the two individuals who claimed they purchased these stress bars had 2Gs, and thus (as the price stands now) you can purchase these for $79. However, that price does not currently apply to the 1G FWDs. Sorry. Perhaps you can find something in the Classifieds section or on eBay.

I did a search and found a few threads on this, although none really gave a diffinitive answer. I have a few other questions of my own.

Correct me if im wrong but 2g's have a good amount of body slop. Strut tower bars and upgraded sway bars can go a long way. Also, Im sure with a correct roll cage you can stiffen the body of a 2g substantially.

But, what about under body or chassis braces that tie the two lower (compression) control arms together? Are there any large benefits to using these? RRE makes a front bar, and Tanabe has a set for front and rear. Although the rear is not fitted for a 2g AWD, only FWD.

What is every ones take on these?
Do they make a *profound* improvement on stiffness?
It be nice to have JTMcinder's oppinion... hint!

I'm picking up a Tanabe rear on Tuesday, but I won't be able to give you feed-back until spring. Feed back, please for me, too! ! I have front and rear strut braces, and a Tanabe rear sway-bar, with a OEM front... and I must say that when I upgraded the rear sway-bar, it was night and day.

I did a mild review on it in here over the summer.

It is generally felt that that that is not an area that requires reinforcment. A strut bar on the top may stiffen things a bit if you have a sunroof. It's the torsional stiffness that is lacking and there isn't much you can do, short of a roll cage, that will improve it.

If you are set on an under-chassis bar, at least get the cool aluminum one with all the holes in it.

Thats the answer I was looking for....In other words, nothing other then a set of strut bars, and a quality roll cage is going to significantly stiffen a 2g.

Upper strut bars make a noticeable difference on a sunroof car if the car is otherwise well setup and running 100-200 wear-rated tyres; the difference is discernible on a non-sunroof car under the same conditions, but not significant.

The RRE lower front bar requires "real" race tyres and setup to become a necessary addition.
