Offset Question

Ok Im looking at some volks for my 1g. I wanted to run 17x8 with some 225/45/17 tires. Will a 40mm offset be good enough? I did a search and didnt see much for a 17x8 wheel.

40 should be good. I just put on 235 / 40 / 18s with 40 offset wheels. They rubbed a tiny bit on the flange inside the rear wells but I was warned of this. Once I cut and bent the flange there was no problem.
