I have a 91 GSX. I am considering the set of Matrix adj. coils offered by Summit racing to lower my car and and to better the handling. I'm not doing this for looks, I do not care about a rough ride, I want to attack the corners. I am a low dollar local racer and need the cheap effective stuff.
Does anyone have any knowledge or any actual use of this product. How much of a drop can the OEM shocks take and still last a couple more months till I can buy or scavenge somthing else.

The only coil-overs worth a darn for a DSM are Ground-Control or any other expensive coil-over system. Matrix, tenzo, dropzone, Maxspeed, Basically any coil-overs from ebay suck.

i dunno about the coilovers, but i've got dropzone lowering springs and have no complaints whatsoever. 2" drop. no sagging and no rough ride...actually they ride exactly like stock.....and i even still have stock struts, go figure. i've even put a set on my friend's eclipse because he was so impressed.:D

Just srpings are fine. But coil-overs are different you need something expensive and made properly.

Okay, I have matrix coilovers and I wanted Ground Controls but didn't have the money. I have had mine on for 2 weeks now and they ride better than the ground controls my friend has. I still have the stock shocks. The ride is not that rough unless you hit a big ass pothole. Ground Control is good, but don't spend that kind of money if you don't have it! Oh yeah and by the way, mine are set all the way down at 4" lowered.

Have you noticed any problems or damage to your stock shocks? How have they affacted the handling of your ride? How much camber do you have now?

Thanks to all of you who have responded to this.

The ride might be better becasue your friend with the GC's probably has stifer shocks also.

My camber is amazingly not off that bad at all. I am not going to get the camber kit, lets put it that way. My stock shocks are holding up fine, but remember, my car has only been lowered for two weeks. And my car handles like a gem! The first thing I did was go to the curviest road around my house and give it hell. The car stuck like glue, it was great.

Mutted,
Yeah, he has tokicos and they are pretty stiff

I am also looking at a partial trade, my stock susp. for a used set of sprint springs and Tokio black shocks. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

It took 2 months before my drivers front blew completley and that was only with a 1.5 inch drop. with a 4inch I don't give them to long.

Besides on FWD sometimes the Cheaper coil-overs work but on AWD the spring rates need to set properly.

I have Maxspeed coilovers and they work fine. No complaints (although I swapped out the rear springs for softer ones, but even then the total cost was still a lot less than if I had bought Ground-Controls).

well I've had these springs on for awile now and over all they suck...they are noisy, I put on new struts and it turns worse then stock:mad: I do how ever have that "slammed" look and SOUND when I drive over ANYTHING. The springs would be fine if I did not drive the car and only looked at it. I should have listened:cry: .....spend the money or stay with stock!

-Lowered 4"OMG , you're probably riding on the bump stops now.

I cut the bump stops on the stock struts. I am going to invest in either Tokico Blues, or KYB AGX's.

For PERFORMANCE, like this guy wants, get the ground control's. Check out their site and their wealth of knowledge, ability to get custom spring rates, etc.

www.ground-control.com

Then check those 'other' sites, guarantee ground control impresses you much more.

I'll raise the mast on the BS pole for this. There is no way at all you'd be driving with a 4" lowering of the suspension. Your camber and toe settings would be horrendous and you'd have absolutely zero compression damping. Also, on topic, you get what you pay for.

If we were talking about a 2G you would be correct, but mine is a 1G laser which doesnt have side skirts like the eclipse and talon. Why would I lie about how far my car is dropped? And no, my camber isnt messed up.
