Rally Tires???

What wheel and tire combo would be good to run for off-road rallying? this would be for a 95 and up TSI AWD. thanks

I hope you have done lots to the suspension for rallying...anyway. For rims we have had good luck with compomotive, have raced for a few years on them and haven't bent one (Toyota Celica). Basically, you want a good tough rim...lots of spokes are usually preferred for more distributed support. Don't get any larger than 16" rims or you won't find many rally tires available. For your tire choices it purely depends on surface. In PA you'll be using a gravel or mud tire (gravel tread blocks are tighter and there is usually a constant line of blocks on the outer edge, mud tires have more open tread blocks and the outer edge typically has a tread block alternating with a space). We ran Silverstone rally tires, they are a good rally tire pretty cheap. I've seen people using the Kuhmo rally tires but I have no experience with them. If you have the $$$ Michelin's are usually regarded as the best. Whatever you do, make sure you run rally tires, they are very different from regular tires...much thicker sidewalls and concentric tread rings on sidewall for lateral traction. Rally tires take a little getting used to, it will feel strange to have traction and predictable (usually) control while drifting.
