Im looking for opinions on running a set of Bridgestone RE01R's in a drag only set up on my awd. It will see frequent street use in fair weather.

The set im looking at is 225/50/16.

The calculators give me dimensions of

sidewall height - 4.43"
overall diameter - 24.86"

The diameter sounds exactly what im looking for for a low power awd. Is that going to be enough side wall? Any info and opinions would be appreciated thanks.

Those tires are pretty expensive and that particular size is hard to come by correct me if Im wrong.
My buddy had those and they wear pretty fast due to it's grip quality. If you're gonna make low power I suggest you look at cheaper price with almost the same or equal quality like yokom hankook or even the bridgestone gforce

I had a set of the S03 pole positions which are now called the re050. These tires are designed for hard cornering and handling, not drag racing. The sidewalls are extremely stiff and extra thick to prevent flexing. The opposite of what you would want for a drag tire.

Just buy QTP's... They are cheap enough and will do everything you want.

Those g force seem to be super low profile. Really im looking for a sticky street tire with close to a 24.5" diameter and lots of sidewall. If thats possible.

Im not too worried about the life of the tire as it wont see many miles.

Thanks, yea sounds like the opposite of what im looking for haha.

How "streetable" would you say they are though? I need something i can cruise around all night on if need be.

And what do you think of the re01r's in the size i mentioned?

There's tons of great info in here:

But unless your spinning on dry pavement, I'd suggest avoiding "performance" tires like the RE01R (RE11 now). Go with a high quality Snow or All-Season tire. They are cheaper, last longer, more comfortable, and even perform better at the drag strip. I have a set of Pirelli P-Zero Nero tires (235/40/18) for typical street driving and they perform great. But for the track I use 205/55 Michelin snow tires on stock 16" rims. Aired down to 20-25psi I've put down mid-high 1 second 60 foot times.

Thanks for the link and the snow tires were going to be my next option actually. I know english ran pretty quick with snow tires on their 16g car.

But then i see the max effort 14b guys running full slicks. Makes me think i need more tire.

Edit: After looking it up again, they ran 9.90 and pulled a 1.45 60ft on snow tires LOL. Hmm...

Maybe a something like a 205/55 snow tire? Keeps the 4.5" sidewalls and 24.5"ish diameter.

I have firestone firehawk oval. I drag like once in a while. They are on my dd. It's hard to spin them also at the track. If you want good track tires and legit dd tires. From my experience I would recommend 340-280 tread wear.

I guess i should have opened this up to a poll.

But I guess what im wondering is how much side wall is needed in a street tire to get the effective wrinkle/flex effect?

Well i ended up going with a 24.5" snow tire. I wont know for another couple weeks whether or not i made the right choice. They're calling for snow next tuesday still.
