b/c your losing an inch or 2 of shock travel by lowering it (depending on the springs you get) they recommend cutting 1/2 to 3/4 inch to get some of the lost shock travel back.

This is very true, NOT all springs require you to cut the bump stops. For example my neuspeed sport spring, I had to re-install a new bump stop in there because i cut off too much and the car would kiss the tire sometimes. I then found out that neuspeed says not to trim the back bumpstop when using their product.

If you don't trim the bumpstop, you will end upo banging your upper perch onto your shock body, destroying the shock.
You only need to trim the bumpstop if your car is constantly sitting on them. Sitting on the bumpstop only hurts suspension performance, increases cabin noise, and makes the car unsafe.

With sportlines i think you are supposed to cut the bump stop 1/2 way. I had to cut mine 1/3 or so with the pro-kit. My springs came with a sheet that shows how much to cut it.

Bump Stop
Hi, my front supension bump stops are all teared up and less than quarter inch is left on the shocks(my car is lowered), i called satan and they have to order them i dont have time to wait. I also checked scrapyard and the bump stops there are all the same condition as mine .No auto parts cary them to,My question is can i make them, im thinking of buying maybe some rubber or prothane bushing drilling the middle hole bigger and using them as bumps stops. Is this a good idea or this will mess up my suspension because they are harder (rubber/prothane)than foam stock bump stops. what do u guy's think or u have better i deas of making the bump stops. Im open to any suggestions.thank you.

I would say just get OEM..You can TRY your way BUT it may be harsh if you bottom out since OEM ones are more "mushier".

It all depends on what the manufacturer of the SPRINGS tells you. I made the mistake of cutting mine and come to find out with my springs there is no need, or rather the manufacturer suggests not to trim them.
All I am saying is make sure you need to cut them before you do.

Thanks for the help. I got the Illumina shocks and springs yesterday. I did not think that there would be any instructions but there were. They recommend cutting them in half. They even included a diagram. I just wanted to be sure before I installed them. Thanks again.

When you get the springs, there will be a note from the manufacture in there telling you how much to cut if any. It all depends on the spring. No two are alike.

Then you could damage the shock if the spring compresses too much.

Not to jack the thread, but I'd also be interested in knowing this, if anyone has the info for Pro Kit springs as well, that'd be wonderful.
