ok so i have tockico illumina shocks and im trying to figure out what this horrible banging that is going on when i ride down the road and hit any kind of bump. I am trying to save my self some cash on the diagnosis. I have just checked the strut bushings and they are in perfect condition from inside the hatch. I opened the hatch and used all my weight and rapidly bounce the car up an down and heard no banging whatsoever so now im confused on whether my shock is bottoming out or my strut is shot, also my rubber bump stops are completely worn out PLEASE HELP ME!!!! alll tuners..

The shocks or swaybar links are the usual culprits. Check all the balljoints while you're checking out the suspension, as they always seem to be shot on these cars.

ok ill check that as well and yes it lowered but i had to move about a year ago and slammed my hatch full of stuff do you think that could of casued the shocks to fail

I am pretty sure that it is a ball joint... same sound comes from my car... I need to get them replaced

i hope so id rather replace a ball joint than buy new coilovers anyday but i could use more opinions if any has got anymore input

but the wierd thing is, is that the clanking and banging come from the left and right side of the car in the rear what are the chances of both ball joints being bad

I am on regular suspension... I got the left and right side banging ever time I hit a bump... I know for a fact that it has to do with the Ball Joints, Control Arm, A bushing died out LOL, or highly doubtful the rear struts... I just replaced my struts -.-

I will be getting work on the ball joints soon within 2 weeks, going to go to Mitsubishi and get the ball joints recall checked and tell me the bad news... Which I know already :thumb:

what do you mean get your ball joints recalled checked is there a recall for them or are you seeing if there is a recall for them plesase let me know asap

There's no balljoints in the rear of the car other than your swaybar links so that's not your culprit. Check the inside of your hatch and make sure the 4 nuts that secure your struts to the car are not loose. Check your exhaust and make sure it's not making contact with the subframe.

Also describe your noise better. Is the noise a metal to metal kind of sound with a hollow ringing or is it more a dull thud like a rubber mallet hitting a steel plate only 10x louder?
