Pad selection for 1g with Baer big brake kit
Hey guys Im looking for new pads for my Baer kit. It's the 13.1" rotor kit that apparently is the same as the mustang cobra.
I've found that auto zone carries akebono ultra high performance ceramic pads for $149. Are these any good or should I be getting something else? I was planning to put it back together Tuesday and thought these might be a good choice.
The car is not going to be seeing a lot of repeated hard stops. But I want it to stop when I need it to.

The price I saw for the hawk pads were $169 before shipping. I guess what I was thinking was that these were in stock and I could put the car back together on Tuesday when I'm off work. But if no one know of the quality or performance of the akebono then I will probably go with hawk.
Also, as far as the hawk pads go, what would be the best for street use. A little noise and dust doesn't bother me.

Ah, then Hawks will be perfect! 
Have you looked at EBC or even the NAPA Adaptive One pads? They're supposed to be fairly supreme.

I have been looking at EBC. They seem to be a lot cheaper than the hawk. I see a lot of guys on the cobra forums talking about the carbotech as well. I found the EBC yellows for under $90. The hawks look to be around $160.

I can tell you I love Carbotech track pads and have for the last 12 years. I can't say anything about their street pads, but I know Scott McIntyre runs them and said good things about them. Also, if you run their street pads you can order pads pre-bedded and then swap to/from their track pads without needing to de-glaze the rotors and re-bed which saves a looooooooooot of time.
The only other pads I might recommend for the street are Girodisc Magic Pads. I have those on my daily driver evo and they are fantastic. No squeal, great stopping power, and the least dust of any pad I've ever had. They really are magic
Of course I have no idea if these pads are available for your caliper, but it doesn't hurt to call them up. If you call Carbotech, ask to speak with Danny and tell him John Freund recommended you to him, and perhaps he'll cut you a discount (no guarantees on that though).

I can't see that Girodisc makes pads for the Eclipse or the Mustang. 
Evo drivers and their cool toys... pfft!

I have EBC
I have had two sets of them on my Talon. I liked the set I got 10 years ago or so. Just Greens although they wore out incredibly fast. Was not impressed with the set I got a few years back. That time I ran a set of greens and a set of Reds and blah.
I am running a set of Carbotech pads now and love them!
My full suspension mountain bike runs EBC Kevlar greens. They work great on the bike!
The EBC Green from a decade ago were a much higher performance pad than now. They changed their formula. Those pads from a decade ago barely functioned as brake pads until they heated up and then performed better and better as they heated up. Almost no braking for a few blocks of stopsigns. They did wear out very fast. The greens I got a couple years ago... I could not tell any difference between them and the stock brake pass except they had a nifty green color to the backing plate. The reds acted a lot more like the old greens did.
The Carbotech pads are just mean mean mean and seem to wear very well

Just trying to clarify, you had Reds on the front and Greens on the rear and it wasn't anything special?

Weird. I only hear good things about the reds. The new reds that is, but I'd imagine there are no more of the old ones in circulation.

I would generally agree with bmoha - while I still replace the stock pads on all my other cars (my Ridgeline, my sister's Accord ... my wife's Commander might even get a set) with EBC Greens, I couldn't honestly say there's a significant different between EBC Greens and most OEM pads. As far as initial bite is concerned anyway. Guess I'm just a creature of habit. But I wouldn't put EBC Greens in the "performance" category...reds and yellows, sure, but not greens, not anymore. They leave deposits, wear quickly and can be squeaky. Not a lot of dust though....

The recent greens were very blah. The reds were better. The Carbontech are better than both. I'm sorry I don't remember which carbontechs I put on.
EBCs wear out very fast. No brake dust. Honestly I don't care about dust. I want brake pads that perform better

Where are you getting these prices from???
The Baer calipers use the exact same brake pad as the Cobra caliper.
I paid $120 shipped for Hawk HPS pads off a vendor from SVTPeformance.
