A few days ago my car started making this weird sound/vibration in the front end.On off/slight throttle coast down,I get this weird clunking in the front that seems to go along with the wheels spinning, and it only happens sometimes, and at differing speeds.I can feel it in the steering wheel, and it sounds as if its coming from the center of the front end.I took it to a tire shop today, and they told me it sounds like a worn strut/s.I have no clue what it could be,but Im thinking something along the lines of CV joint possibly.Anyone ever have this problem or something like it?Or any suggestions on what it could be?Thanks!

If it were a CV joint or worn strut it wouldn't sound like it was coming from the center of the car. Anyway, the noise you're describing sounds kinda like when the cv goes bad. Have you checked the boots? Also, visually inspect the shocks and see if they compress easier than they should.

Will bad struts cause a vibration in the car at around 55-60mph?

I have a similiar weird noise. Its this thud thud thud thud thud sound that only happens when decelerating. Heres how it works
If i accelerate it stops
If I hit the brakes it stops
If I turn the wheel a bit to the left it stops
If I turn the wheel a bit to the right it gets louder?

Oh yeah , its coming from the front passenger side. Any thoughts ?

Wookie and TSI (If you have the same problem):

I had the EXACT same symptoms last saturday. Clunk, clunk, clunk. At highway speeds you can't hear it (or it's going to fast to catch :| ) When coming to a stop it gets worse. I bet your car is noticably pulling to one side.

Go for a spirited drive at a highway speed and come to a stop. Check the temperature on all your rotors. I have 5 bucks that says your back and front right will be under 200 degrees. And the front right will be in the 600's, easy. My first one I had SMOKED if you took it for a good 5 minute drive.

You have a stuck Calipar. Either that or the pivot itself has rusted the Calipar stuck. How do I know? Because last saturday was my THIRD one on the dsm in a year. It's an almost free fix though. Take the Calipar pins out and regrease them. Grease the pads (NOT ON THE ROTOR SIDE) and put them back in. The sound should disappear.

That would make sense. I took the wheel off today, to check into things. Thought it odd that 4 of the 5 lugs I had to put a breaker bar on to get loose and I had the wheel off less than a month ago. The breaker bar ended up doing its job a little too well , 4 out of 5 studs snapped off.

So I have to say they have been pretty friggin hot , and that you mention it I have noticed a new hot smell the last few days.
