Does anyone know if the 3000GT VR-4 four piston calipers fit with 17x6.5" stock rims? My rims are off a 2000 Dodge Avenger but I believe the backspacing should be about the same as the 17x6.5" DSM rims. Thanks in advance.

What brackets are you using for this brake kit? The bracket determines the rotors size. the kits we have offer, 12.6 and 13.1 inch rotors.

this is the only info I could find on the subject: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/ven...g-brake-sale-tuners-nation.html#post152200540

It used to say on the Tuners Nation website "17 inch rims recommended, evo wheels work great". I would just give Garfield a call at tuners nation to see how well those wheels will fit. I think you will be okay as long as they are 17 inches in diameter. These calipers are not as bulky as Evo calipers.

I am currently running this set up with the evo 8 wheels. 17 x 8 35+ offset.

goodluck

I would not recommend those calipers, they weight a ton. I bought a set and threw them away after I got them. They were way to heavy to run, I got more out of the 2g calipers and power slot rotors. Just my .02

3kVR4 front calipers are 1lb lighter than Evo 8/9 calipers, and half the weight of the stock dual piston AWD caliper - 7lbs, give or take a few ounces.

The factory VR4 rotor however does weigh a ton, negating any weight advantage the caliper might offer. Unless you have VR4 rotors from TCE, which weigh nothing.

This setup is not going to fit inside any OEM DSM wheel though - like Evo 8/9 brakes, it doesn't even fit behind most aftermarket wheels, never mind OEM. It is the spoke design, not the offset that matters.

RPF1 17x8 +45, the spokes are not thick and they dont arch in towards the caliper. Is it safe to say that they'll work just fine?

Hmm, I also have some other info to add regarding VR4 brakes.

Somewhere on here I spouted off that the VR4 setup that TunsersNation sells - that is to say, 1G VR4 calipers on 2G VR4 rotors - fits within Kosei K1 16x8.5 wheels with a small spacer.

Nice try sunshine - not s'much...

While they did fit and clear each other in the workshop and driving up the driveway, they DO NOT fit once the brakes warm up ! There was about 2mm clearance, which ordinarily is sufficient - at least when putting motorbike brakes together - but once warmed up the wheels did start scraping on the calipers. The calipers can be clearanced to fit, but not as delivered.

So no, don't believe me - I hope nobody bought this setup based on my say-so - sorry...

I have vr4 brakes on my car. I have 17x8 rpf1s and I needed at least a et35 to clear and not be sitting on the caliper. I'm using the brackets from RTM so I am using cobra 13" rotors. Stock 17 gsx wheels will NOT fit due to the higher offset.

It's the spoke design that dictates whether they'll fit, not the offset. There's a difference.

3si wheels are +46 offset, but they are designed to have enough clearance on the backside of the spokes.

RPF1's have a flat spoke design with a lip on the rim. Get a wheels with a little more concavity and the calipers will clear, even with a slightly higher offset.

STU:
What offset are the RPFs? Mine are 17x8 and +45/40 can't remember, leaning towards 40.
And what do you mean by you needed an "et35"? Is that offset?
I have 16" wheels for winter with winter tires, but I'm pretty much over the hump that it's almost impossible to use 16" with 3s vr4 brakes. I do have 2 sets of 17" wheels though and other unused set is 17x7, those might be more of a problem, i forget the offset too. As long as they work with both I will buy them. Don't want to buy another set of wheels.
Thanks.

Yes the offset on my rpf1s are et35. These are the only ones that fit, my other friends have 40/45 et and they hit the caliper before they were even close to the hub!

After I went looking around at what wheels will work when I did my swap to the 3kgt's I wondered why in the hell they don't have a spoke clearance dimension.
The best thing to tell you is dumby your set up on your car and get measurements of the points that you know will cause problems. Write it all down and draw pictures then when you find some wheels you like measure them up and compare to your clearance need specs. Garfield told me to stay away from offsets towards 40 and diameters less than 17".

What rotor are you planning to run? I chose the lexus rotor because it allowed me to set the caliper back away from the spokes more than the cobra rotor. My idea was it may open up my range of different wheels and offsets I could use.

Did you ever get dimensions for the tuners bracket?
