Here is my situation...

First of all, I am in Iraq, planning on doing a lot of needed front end work on my return in a few months. (control arms, tie rods, half shaft, and struts).

My car has KYB AGX all around with eibach drop springs. This is what was already on the car when I bought it. The front struts are shot, obviously due to the drop springs.

My budget is fairly tight for the car with the amount I need to spend in other areas. A new set of front AGXs is about the maximum I can afford. I am concerned with them just blowing out though. Really, I don't see myself doing much suspension adjusting, although I am ignorant on the subject so I may after getting use to them.

What would you do if you were in this situation with this budget? AGX, GR2, move back to OEM springs with GR2s, or something else? I almost want to just get cheap struts knowing that I will have to replace them often anyways.

This will hopefully be a mid 12 sec car and is a DD btw, after I have done everything I want to do to it. Just to let everyone know my purpose and goals.

Lets just say that $300 is way more than I want to spend, but if I absolutely had to I could scrap it together for something awesome. With that being said the ~$100 price tag on GR2s makes life so much easier, and I have found AGXs for just over $200... Truthfully, I dont even know for sure that the struts themselves are all I need to complete the job, or if other items are neccesary.

Like so many things, you'll get what you pay for with suspension parts. With your budget being tight I'd say buy the GR2's for now and start setting some money aside to buy a good set of struts later. If you're patient you can find great deals on used parts here or on eBay. I have a used set of Koni's on my Galant and couldn't be happier with them. I'm doing a little apples/oranges comparison but they ride much better than my AGX struts did on my 1g.

If you must roll on the blown struts a month or two more and just get Koni's if you don't want blown struts again. KYB's are the best for handling stiffer springs. Some people get lucky with a good strong set of AGX's but that's not always the case
