Eibach Prokit springs softer than stock!
Hi everyone,
I just got off the phone with Eibach.
Acording to them, for our 2ga FWD cars, the spring rates for Proktis are progressive, and are:
Front
Initial 214
Final 319
Rear
Initial 114
Final 194
If you do the math, the average for the front is 266.5 (aaprox. equal to stock), and the rear is 154 (lower than stock).
This shocked me, because as far as I knew, Prokits were supposed to be stiffer than stock! Apparently, they're shorter, and equal in front stiffness while sofetr in the rear!
Thought everyone might like to know...

However, a LOT of people use Eibach Pros and they stand by them solidly. Illuminas and Pros are the general combination everyone uses.

I would agree. I hate my Prokits. Don't get me wrong, for AWD at least, they're definitely better than stock.
But the facts are they make for a fine daily driver. They're just not half as sporty as people might think, nor are they "pro" at anything.

I believe you guys.
I'd bet the softer than stock initial spring rate is comfortable when cruising, and that the harder rate when you get half way into the spring in a moderate corner feels tighter than stock (which it is).
I'm just worried about how much easier it would be to hit my bumpstops if I'm lowered 1 inch without any increase in spring stiffness (let alone the decrease in the rear prokits!).

This is consistent with my subjective impression comparing the Prokit vs H&R OE Sports. You may recall the thread where I switched from Eibach to H&R's. Now that I have had more drive time on the H&R's I can definitely say that the ride is more harsh than the Prokit but the performance is noticeably better. I wish H&R would give out the spring rates on these.

I not only recall it, I went over it in fine detail this morning.
I also called H&R this morning, and they wouldn't give me any spring rate info either. I do wonder how stiff they really are...
Somebody with a spring tester needs to test the H&R OE sports!!!!!!!

I personally would never use sportlines... too much of a drop for me in Vermont.
But, if you call Eibach and ask, I'm sure they'll tell you. If you do, please do share

Sportlines = less spring rate than Prokits and less than stock, if I recall. But getting the word from the horses mouth would be ideal.

Honestly, I do not know if a simple mean is appropriate, however with intial damping levels lower than stock, that alone steers me away from prokits...

I pulled some old numbers I had written down when I was searching for suspension. I'm not sure if these are final or inital, but I thought I would throw them out as reference since they so seem to match the 15-20% stiffer than stock claim of Eibachs (looking at final #s)
95-96 OEM Stock 2G AWD
Front: 265
Rear: 162 (+/- 8 )
97-99 OEM Stock 2G AWD
Front: 246
Rear: 151

So guys it's seem that stock springs will be good enough for AGX or Koni-Sport shocks if lowering of the car is not required for tuner? Especially for owners of 95-96 2G FWD
