Ground Controll Coilovers

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

They are a pretty decent coilover setup for the price. When a customer asks for a coilover setup for a good price, we recommend the Ground Controls.

However, depending on your budget, there are better ones.

I have them on my car and like them alot. It is nice to be able to just adjust them with an allen wrench. I would recommend them. They work well with the KYB shocks that I have which are relatively cheap.

Ground control are really good coil overs. The springs themselves in all of their coil over systems are made by EIbach. From what i hear ground control will give you a good ride even if you slam it to its lowest setting.

i have ground controls in my mazda and it bounces i little when i slam it which is a 3 3/4 inch drop but if i raise it one inch from the bottom it rides like stock checl the pics of the mazda at

What is a good baseline setup for them(how far down the tube). Assuming a 1"rear/ 1 1/2"front drop. The GC instructions are somewhat lacking on specifics. On search I couldn't find any specifics. TIA

i think for 1.5 i would go about 7-8threads from the top and for 1 inch i would go 4-5 threads make sure you tighten it with the allen wrench so it doesn't spindle down

I bought mine on ebay from a private seller. $142.50 shipped. Doubt you're gonna find a deal like that though. It had the stock tube so I had GC send me rear tubes for AGX's. Only $30 shipped, so for $172.50 I'm verrry happy!

Where did you go to get the ground controls, and have you seen them for less that $400

ground-controls are retailed for 399 and the cheapest that i have ever seen them for were only 10 dollars less than that at most shops. where i used to work we used to seel them for 389. most shops don't get much of a bargain from ground-control. so the prices remain pretty high. that deal rfom ebay that eclipse2via got was a hell of a deal even though he had to buy the sleeves.:dsm:

are there any coilovers that are equivalent to ground control's but cost less?

APC, OBX, Wal-mart....

to me all coilovers are the same.. they all do the same thing, just depends on how well you install them.. I would save up for a full system like shock/coil in one..

I've had GC and i've broke to of them... so.. it's up to you.. I will never buy GC again. it's a waste I get the same ride from my 70 dolla VISs..

....my 0.2

The most expensive and most important part of any coil over setup is the spring. If you go down market make sure you can live with that spring or it's just a waste of money. Personally I can't go $1600+ on JIC's or other advanced setup.

My 20 cents.

has anyone bought the ground controll coilovers and if so what are you thoughts, because they look pretty good to me.

thanks for any help or information

I had purchased a set about 3 years ago. They ride pretty hard even on and are IMO not very good for street use if you live in an area with potholes / frost heaves / etc... Unfortunately I live in MA where we have lots of those things! I blew out the rear KYB AGX's that came with my GC coil over setup within one year. When I complained to KYB about this, they informed me that they would not warantee their product if it was used in a coil over setup, so I needed to buy a new set. In doing so decided to take the coil overs off in favor of factory springs in the rear (I wanted to avoid future warantee problems with KYB's). The front seems to be ok though (strange since I would think the front usually takes more of a beating than the rear) so I have left the front as is. If I could go back and do things over ... I would probably opt for a setup that was a little tighter than stock (Eibach's / KYB's). If my car were not a daily driver, and I was at the track more often I would reconsider the GC Coil Overs.

Hope this helps a little ...
