New Rotora Big Brake kit installed - should pads rub at first?

Searched for this a bit and couldn't find anyone stating their pads made a scraping/noise or dragged when first installed. Is this normal? Any ideas on what could be wrong if their not? The Caliper / brake pads came all as one piece so I just made sure everything was tightened. I drove the car for about 10 miles, the brakes felt normal, you can just here and see the pads scrapping the entire time.

Thanks in advance.

Well, are they just loud or what? Is it only loud when you apply brakes or when your just moving? What kind of pads are they?

It's fairly loud all the time, I can see the new brake pad material in the slots. Not sure on brand as they came loaded in the brakes. They are silver/metallic looking pads.

Did you shim the caliper for proper spacing on both sides of the rotor? I know my friend Paul s on here had to do this on his AP racing brakes. Is this something that Rotora recommends with their installation?

Yes, not exactly sure how the Rotora big brake kit is setup but like Steve said have you shimmed it properly. The caliper can be contacting the rotor itself if not shimmed properly. Did you bed the pads in properly? Did you apply anti squeel to the back sides of the pads? Some pads, depending on their material will squeel & there is nothing you can do about it except get a different pad.

No squeel, just scrape/grinding noise. Not sure about the shimming or bedding, I think I'm just gonna call them up tomorrow... was hoping someone might have experienced the same thing. Hopefully my 10 miles of light driving didn't do any damage.

A grinding noise is never normal. Probably the caliper not shimmed correctly & rubbing or could be the dust shield. Check these to items first, if your getting a grinding noise you should be able to see physical wear on some parts.

The wear is coming from the brake pads, can see it building up a little in the slots.

Can see what building up in what slots? If your talking about brake pad material getting built up in the slots on the rotor breaking surface, that is completely normal.

Well, I took everything apart today and put back together and still same problem. The brake pads are super tight on the rotor and it looks like the cylinders are sticking out about 2-3mm are they supposed to be completely recessed when not braking? Thanks.

The cylinders/pads do not really retract when you are not braking, though the get pushed back a couple thousandths of an inch. Are the pads wearing excessively?

Some ceramic pads are just plain noisy. Have you asked others with these brakes if that's the case? Or is this clearly a metal-on-metal noise?

It is the brake pads scraping that is causing the noise, when I talk to Rotora they made it sound like it was not normal. This car hardly sees any miles on it so I have only drove it about 10 miles with the new brakes.

I spose I will give them a call tomorrow since I see what exactly is causing the noise and verify with them that it is normal. I was just to timid to drive it around for awhile if it was damaging the brakes. Thanks.

Did you make it clear that you have not bed the pads and rotors (yet)? I completely sympathize with wanting to be careful with a new setup and being made nervous by strange new noises -- I spend far too much energy while driving listening and feeling for what will break next -- but sometimes the whole "drive it like you stole it" attitude is called for. Easy for me to say, of course, since it isn't my car!

This is slightly off topic, but I was wondering if anyone knew about how much replacement pads were for this Rotora big brake kit, and where to buy them?
