I just got KYB GR2s put on all 4 corners about a week ago. While mowing my yard today I noticed 2 oil spots under the car right under where the rear 2 shocks sit. It looks to be all over the suspension in the rear and on the spring. I only assume these things broke already? But I thought these were a gas shock? Or am an idiot and all shocks have oil in them?

BTW - Can I lower about 1.5 inches on these GR2s?

All shocks have oil. They have a bag of gas in them that will compress when the shaft and piston displace the oil inside of the body

I don't recommend lowering on GR2's. They are OEM replacements, which means they are spec'd to match our stock shocks. Given the fact that KYB makes our stock ones, it's safe to say they're identical to stock.

Yes, I wouldn't recommend lowering on the GR-2's. Though, it is safe to say that the GR-2's are slightly stiffer than a stock setup, but by no means are they high performance shock. Have they leaked any more oil?

Oh ya the rear 2 are leaking. I got them from a local tire shop (Les Schwab) so they are under warranty. The only thing is the dude told me they would be fine to lower on. So, maybe I will look into the AGXs, although they are 60 bucks more A STRUT!!!

Actually, GR2s are slightly stiffer than stock. Maybe not enough for most people to notice, but not the same.

Good luck on getting the warrantee to be honored on a lowered car. Seriously. I wish you well.

Oh my bad. Its not lowered yet. So I should be fine. The reason I bring up lowering is because I plan to sometime in the future. So I went with these struts cause I thought I would be ok down the road.

Just a minor correction: Our cars don't have struts. A strut is a damper that also acts as an upper control arm. Correct terminology would be damper, although in everyday person lingo, it's a shock.

Ya well whatever you call them I went with the AGXs. My front still rides rough so I am still investigating that.
