Worcester,
i found this guy that is selling ALT Racing sonix rims with 235/45/17 tires they rims are 17x7. my car is lowered 1.5 inches... will these rims fit fine or will it rub?

5x114.3 and 17x7 they are ALT racing sonix's all black with inner polished lip... few people on this fourm have them... no he does not have an eclipse

235/45r-17 are a little tall for our cars, but may fit depending on the offset of the wheels. The offset is how much wheel sticks out behind the mounting flange. Should be a number like +40mm. Find this out.

they have an offset of 40... here is a link to all the information and a picture of the rim

they guy im buying them from had them on a dodge grand caravan(dodge grand is 5x114.3...so i know its right bolt size) he wants 650 with tires and rims. eveyrwhere i looked they cost around a 1000. tires have around 1000 miles on them he said. he put the rims on in november.

so will these rims fit with these tires or am i going to have rubbing issues? can anyone help me out?

With the 17/7 and 235/45 tire and 40mm offset will fit but if you go and try to adjust the rear camber to be within spec after 1.5 lowering you might find that it rubs the rear fender lip. If it does simply grind it off..

wouldnt it be better to roll the rear fenders? how much does that usually cost (rough esitmate)

why do i never hear about front wheels rubbing is there more clearance or something in the front?

Since the fender-lip is where two pieces of the unibody are welded together, I would strongly argue in favor of rolling over cutting.

No. Justice Thomas was never accused of being interested in breasts. It was all about pubic hairs on soda cans. Likewise, when the sax player from the E-street Band does a solo, I have never suffered from flutter problems from the dash-top speakers. It just sounded good.

On an unrelated point: there should be no problems at all with rubbing of the front tires on your car.

Or you can cut, reweld, pull, and put another fender on.

But that's an awful lot of work for used pizza-cutter wheels with 40 offset. :sosad:

235's are going to be pretty floaty on a 7 inch wheel but that's hasn't stopped anyone before.

what does pizza cutter wheels suppose to mean?
not sure if i understand what you mean by "floaty" either?

what do you guys recommond in this situation.. buy rims and tires and replace the tires with 225/45/17? or find a differset set of wheels? you think i should stick with these riims? everywhere online wants about 1000 for tires and those rims, while this guy is asking for 600 with 235/45/17 tires

im pretty certain the wheel will be fine from everywhere i have read (correct?) its the tire that i am worried about.

Yes, they will fit fine, after you roll the fenders as mentioned. 235's are a little wide for 7" wheels and will roll under heavy cornering. Not the best for handling. But if handling is not your your highest priorty, you should be fine.

wret is if my car wasnt so low (1.5) would i still have to roll the fenders? what is the minimum height i could go before i would have to roll the fenders

my opinion is that the wheels are too narrow for that size tire. I would not go above a 225 on a 7" rim personally.

235/45 is the closest to stock in a 235 width. 45 series is +1.8% and 40 series is -1.9% so I don't really see that it makes a difference.

I'm running 235/45-17 on my car, but with 8" wide rims. The biggest issue is having the proper offset.
