performance that are halfway decent in the snow?

I live in Wisconsin, so I have to be able to drive in the snow during the winter, but I also want some nice performance tires for the summer.

I really like the Kumho Ecsta Supras, but I don't think they're very good for the winter, unfortunately.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Christ, I don't even know if I want to get 16" or 17" wheels.

Any suggestions there would help, too :D

Khumo Ecsta Supra's (Not from experience but you can read the customer feedback on tirerack.com) wear very quickly 16k miles. They have little to no snow traction and are as noisy as a B-17. If you want to really know how well they hold up ask LarryD. He runs the Ecsta 712's great damn dry weather traction...well take it from him. Send a PM.

My suggestion would be Yokohama AVS ES100. Grade A in all dept and about 70.00 a tire for 16's at Tirerack.com I believe

yeah, actually the 712's aren't that loud of a tire, however; they are by no means quiet either. as far as wear goes it depends on how you drive them, but i think they are rated at 280 to 300 .... well something between there. still better wear then the rsa goodyear's that the car came with which were rated at 260, and the 712's for a fraction of the price will out handle the rsa's in every street condition.

now as far as a snow tire... i dont think you will be able to find a performace / snow tire. just find yourself a cheap set of snow tires for the winter and get the 712's after the winter months are over.

I'm sorry to say, but that isn't correct!

I love my Supra 712's! they are quieter than the stock tires I had on my car, and work very well for me in the snow (I am AWD though). I didn't have hardly any trouble with them yet at all. Mine have about 2,500 miles on them and are hardly showing any signs of wear, even w/ some burnouts... I'd reccomend them to anyone who is looking for a great low price tire!

I think Toyo makes some pretty good "all season" tires.

The Yoko AVS100's are nice, but they aren't going to get your FWD car through any Wisconsin winter. If these tires get cold, they turn as hard as rocks. It takes about 3-5 miles to warm them up. I could only imagine if they never warmed up. (due to snow) Now, if it's just wet, these are awesome tires. I really can't notice much of a difference in rain then on dry pavement... WHEN DRIVING NORMALLY. (not like I'm going 90 around corners when it's wet)

My opinion on a good snow tire for a good price: The Bridgestone
Blizzak LM-22

I would also recommend you stick with the factory tire size so your tires dig through the snow rather than ride up on it like oversized tires would.

Here is a address of tireracks winter and all season tire page you can highlight and "copy and paste" into you address bar to see there are also some graph addresses below this one:

Here Are Some Charts that further explain the tires:

^^^^My thoughts exactly. I had Blizzaks on my Q45 for the Wisconsin winter. 285 HP to the rear wheels is pretty bad in winter without snow tires, and the Blizzaks helped a ton. I wish I still had that car :(
