Well, as the title states I am in urgent need of slicks by the end of this week. I have my whole game plan set to go, and I already ordered my rubber. I opted for the Mickey Thompson 24.5x8x15; I really like this tire and is what I run on my WS6.
What I am not sure of is the amount of backspacing to chose for my rim. I am going to order circle track rims from HERE
because they are right in my price range. They are a 15x8 wheel and come in two, three, four, or five inch backspacing.
As for my car, It sits on nankang 235/40/17 tires. I am not sure of the brand wheel, or the offset, as they are an off-brand wheel that the original owner opted for. I have full suspension setup with a 1.5" drop.

Simply put, I need to know what backspacing to choose before I order my wheels this afternoon. Thanks everyone.

Thanks Jtoby for the reply. I have come across the same thread in my long time of searching for my answer. I was hoping a 4" backspace would suffice. Being that this is a strict race application, and not for appearance, I would like to run these with no spacers. You would agree that a 4" backspace would be adequet (sp)?

Thanks.

A backspacing of only 4" on an 8"-wide wheel is an offset of zero. That will cause the tires to stick out a lot and this will put a lot more stress on the wheel-bearings. I would not do it if you have any choice in the matter.

That was my main concern. In your previous post, you state anything 5.5" and under will keep me from rubbing on suspension componants. In the same post, however, you say a 4.5" was what worked for another member. Seeing they only make my wheel selection in one inch increments of backspacing, if a four will not work, will a five do? Thanks for your help.

If you check the history of the person who said he was going with a 4.5" backspace you will know to take it with a bit of salt. Note also that the guys at SBR said get 5.5", which matches the standard math. So, yes, anything 5.5" or below won't rub, but I'd stay as close to 5.5" as you can. And since 5" is available, that's the way I'd go. If you can find another maker who offers 5.5", then that might be even better.

Then five it is, I am ordering them now. Sub 2's, here I come! :) And if your wrong, I'm kicking your ass tobey!! Just kidding, thanks for the help pal.

I spun a bearing a week ago, so you will have to kick what's left of my butt after a certain conversation with my wife. Good luck and have fun.

I am posting this up for fellow search'ers. On a 2g gsx The 5.5 backspacing on a 8" rim (weld draglite), The slick was going to horribly rub the front spindal upright arm. So I sent those back and then tried the 3.5".....WAY to little backspacing. Now sending those back and shopping again....For a proper rim.

I run the MT 24.5X15X8's on my 2.3L stroker and I pull 1.7 60's.
I am trying to fit 26x15x8's and trying to find a good rim to mount them on. That fits correctly......

Congrats. Now could you post your backspacing or offset? Thanks, man.

We normally run offsets around 40mm, which would be a backspacing around 5.5" on an 8"-wide wheel.
Not enough close, pin-head. You are forgetting that the rim is included in the backspacing. A 5.5" backspace on a typical 8"-wide wheel is an offset of about +25.

[Note how this makes it very strange that someone would report that this combination would rub the front spindle on a 2G.

Buzzz. Also wrong. But thanks for playing.

Sorry JToby, I have no idea. I traded a few parts for the brand new slick/rim combo. The rims are cheep Aero black steelies that require me to run a 1/2" spacer to clear the caliper bracket.

I just wanted to post the combo I run, sorry for the missing info.
