My front brakes I knew were warped so I changed out the rotors with some brand new ones. Seemed to do the trick. Well that was about 3 weeks ago or so. Well, it seems that when I get up there on the freeway to 85+ that the car still shakes when I brake.

My questions are, I didn't change out the rear rotors? Could they have been warped to and can they can the car to shake as well? And 2, I didn't change the front pads cause they were pretty new. Could the pads be warped and cause this?

Thanks for any info or input and sorry if these are stupid questions. :dsm:

Is the shaking pronounced in the steering wheel, or is it mainly the chassis?

If the steering wheel shakes violently, then it's the front rotors. If not, look towards the rear rotors.

The term “warped brake rotor” is not really appropriate, although widely used. What you are describing is most likely the effect of LRO (lateral run out), which means simply that there is excessive variation in the plane in which your rotor spins. It may have a single cause, like corrosion or unevenness of your wheel hub flange, or it may be the result of a “stack-up” of tolerances.

When brake rotors do not spin evenly, they don’t wear evenly. The higher area has a tendency to rub continuously against the brake pad while you are not braking. Eventually this causes a variation in the thickness of the rotor braking surface. When the variation reaches a certain level it can be felt as pulsing in the pedal as the rotors push back against the pads. Pulsation from the front rotors will also be felt in the steering wheel.

Resurfacing or replacing the rotor will likely eliminate the pedal pulsation but possibly only temporarily. If the LRO is caused by something other than the rotor, the pulsation will return as the rotor wears.

Yup. Bad wheel bearings can cause this, since they allow the caliper bracket to move relative to the rotor. It is also worth checking to make sure that all of the caliper pins can move freely; this should be done every time that you inspect or replace the pads and/or rotors.
