All 16" stock rims are 6" wide. All 17" rims are 6.5" wide.
215/55/16 are the stock optional size for AWD's. Biggest you would want to go is 225/50/16. Anything higher wider than that and you will have either sidewall or rubbing issues on the suspension upgrights.

If you look under tire sizes via the manufacturer, the smallest width for tires of 225/x/x is 7"

The rule of thumb is no less that 70% of the tread with of the tire.
25.4*6 = 152.4
152.4/225 x 100 = 68%
This puts the 225 wide rim at the limit of the rule of thumb. It will work, no matter what Tirerack says. Remember tirerack is also the place that tells you you can't run 245/40/17's on a DSM. Wrong again.
