Hi Guys, I've been searching through alot of old threads about rims and found some people say 18's will fit with some mods, and some say they fit without. I wanted 18's but if i have to mod anything i'll just pass for 17's which is fine with me. Then I also read that some people that had thier dsm lowered had to mod the wheel wells to fit 17's.

Problem I have is I bought my Eclipse a month ago and dont know if it was lowered, I have attached a picture below, it doesnt seem to me like it has been, but I believe you guys should be able to tell just from looking. I dont want to spend $600-$800 just to find out they dont fit.

Your car does not appear to be lowered.

It’s not the larger wheel size or even lowering that necessitates fender modification; it’s the wider tires that most people want. You have a larger diameter wheel in mind. Did you think at all about the tire width?

Ahh, the wider the wheel is the differance, I guess I dont need it to be any wider than neccisary seeing as how I wont be tuning or racing it (dont flame me, its an automatic). The 18's I wanted were 7.5, would I be able to get away with 18x7.5? or should I just play it safe and get 17x7?

Do some research and figure out what your goals are. 17 inch wheels are more practical and probably the better performance option. This is coming from a guy who loves his 18’s though.

Does anyone know the limits of the 2g wheel wells? I havent been able to find a post that really states it solid. I just found some Giovanna 18x8.5's, again, this is a daily driver but performance isnt a huge factor, I would rather it look good since I wont be racing.

Also, while im posting, what kind of work (or expense if it is not possible for the average joe to do) is involed in rolling the rear fender lips and whatever else it takes to get these to fit?

245 width tires are the widest you can fit under the fenders of a 2g DSM and only if the offset is right. They would fit nicely on 8.5 inch wheels.

There are many threads discussing fender flange rolling, which would be a good thing to do before you mount anything close to 245’s. Anybody can do it.
