I got a kickass deal on a GC kit for a 1G that was never used. The problem is I didnt realize that they make each kit a bit different for the different types of struts out there. I am going with AGX's cause I dont Xcross or roadrace just dragrace. The problem is that there is a small insert in the Ground Control kit that wont allow it to go all the way down on the AGX. I have put a pic of what I am talking about.

I know I need to call GC but it is a Friday night and I only have this weeked to try and get this done, if I have to send them back I wont have time for another month. I was hoping someone would know what the skinny is for each kit. Ill try and give them a call on Saturday to get the final answer.

Thanks in advance

that little metal ring will come out. it takes some time and you have to hit it from side to side to get it out.

there's a lip/ridge machined on the collar where that ring sits. if you push on it from the top it should slide out

Part of my problem is they are brand new, never been installed, so if they are the wrong ones I can just send them back and get the correct ones for the cost of shipping. I dont want to try a beat to fit paint to match method if I can get the correct set for a small price.

I am going to try and call today and see that GC has to say.

Thanks for the replies.

Hold your horses...
:D

Those will work just fine. Leave the ring in the GC collar...!

:)
Hold an agx upsidedown. Hit the backside of the spring perch with a rubber mallet. It will fall off. It bottoms out against its own retaining ring and is really only adhered with paint. Slide the GC collar on.. Should fit.. Maybe a little sanding of the paint on the shock will be need... 2 out of the 4 AGX's I have needed it.

I actually got it figured out. I called them and they let me know that those pieces were just pressed in and could be pushed out. I figured that was the case becasue the thickness of the collar was different top to bottom. I just didnt want to start swinging a hammer at them if it was just going to damage them. They do fit just a tad bit loose so I will get a small piece or rubber and wrap it around the shock body so they dont rattle.

Thanks for all the info guys.

I knocked mine off with the handle end of a #2 phillips screwdriver...

You could try window weld to snug things up... Mine were a bit tight.... 2g Awd so some differences...

Did you remove the metal bushing from the inside of the GC collar or the OE style perch from the AGX's?

I know the rear perch will come off the rear AGX's no problem.. Since it looks alot like a 2g rear perch.

From what I have seen... Most shocks have as little welding on them as posible done to the tube itself. Just tabs or rings welded to the body to act as stops for the perches. Spring pressure keeps the collar on the shock and unless they are installed the only thing really holding them is the paint dip.

If you can get rid of the stock style perches do it. It will look and function more like true coilovers as opposed to stock like shocks with collars sitting on them...

This quide is about as goofy as ERC springs. But for 1g's see note D?.

D) trimming of stock spring seat allows added range of adjustment

If you cant knock those red perches off cut them off so the only thing between the shock and spring is the GC collar.

For 2g installs it does'nt have any notes. I know for a fact that I could just knock of the AGX's perches and drop on the collars and it looked just like GC's over koni's except not yellow or as nice of shocks.

I think their tech support and install directions leaves alot to be desired.

I knocked out the little rings inside the collars.

Here are some more pics. The rings came out really easy so that wasnt a problem, but I will definetly cut the purches off the AGX's. The frount looks goofy as shit and I did notice that it wont allow me to lower all that much if I leave the perch intact. I will spend the evening with my good buddy Dremel.

I heard from an other person to window weld the sleeve on the AGX, but if the AGX goes out or there is another servie problem I want to be able to get them apart fairly easy. I also dont want them to rattle though so I will have to mess with them a bit to find the best of both worlds.

Forgive my simplistic chop, I am good with cars not art.

Window weld is just black caulk that dries to a hockey puck consistency. A minor amount to stop rattle wont be hard to seperate things.

I can't tell from those pictures but are those perches really welded? I thought mine were untill a light smack made one budge..
