I've got a 97 GSX and it seems like I'm trying to stop a freight train whenever I try to stop. And my brakes continually squeek. I just changed my rear pads and I just changed my front ones like a month ago. I just bought some ceramic ones for the front though so I'm going to put those one soon, hopefully they will help. Does anyone else have this problem w/ GSXs or TSi AWDs? I know they're heavy cars, but jesus, they're not THAT heavy. Whenever I slam on the breaks, it doesn't really feel like it's going to stop.

Would I possibly need to go w/ bigger brakes?

well if your worried about not stopping bigger brakes and roters will work.
if you wanna get rid of the squeek then theres this anti squeak brake stuff that you can get at your local kregan or reibies auto parts store.

also did you check your roters for warping or runout?

what kind of pads did you use when you changed them last month? also make sure there's no air in the brake lines.

I had to get the cheap ones bec/ I was real low on money at the time. But they needed changed, when I took off the old ones, there was virtually almost no pad left. I've checked the fluid, there's no air in it. I might get new rotors bec/ the front ones are starting to get grooves in them. hmm, maybe that's my problem  .

I don't have the money right now for bigger brakes. Maybe I'll just run to Auto Zone and get some new rotors for the front and put on the ceramic pads and be done with it. Thanks guys.

only reason I asked about the pads is because I used $15 Autozone pads for awhile. After switching them out for Metal Masters I realized just how crappy they were...

yeah, I bought some Albany ones for about that same price. Hopefully these ceramic ones will work better.

you can get the rotors cut. cheaper than new rotors like 7 dollars a rotor. evry time i do my brakes i get cheap pads and cut the rotors

Sounds like you just got the "organic" material and not the semi-metallic OEM. There is a big differance. Once you change your pads, you should be OK. Let me know how you like the ceramic material! :laser:

about a yr ago, i was driving and my brakes felt like they weren't working. I had to pump the pedal to stop. i ended up changing the rear rotors and rear pads.
also, changing out the brake lines for some braided steel brake lines will help out.
changing the brake fluid will also be very beneficial, as old brake fluid wont be in as good of a condition as new brake fluid will be in.

I have a 98 GSX. I thought all GSXs came with the Mistubishi Big Brake kit already. I have had no trouble stopping, and have never heard of a GSX owner complain about the stopping power of a GSX. Most of us, put on slotted/dimpled rotors and use semi-metallic pads if we want an upgrade.... but the car doesn't really need it.

I also replaced the brake lines with braided lines.

shrug... From what I have heard people sharing on this forum, you should not need to move up to a big brake kit over the stock mitsu big brake kit.

good luck.

My experience with stock brakes on my 97 GSX has been nothing but aweful. Sure they are fine for around town, but when you try to stop acouple times in a row from a high speed the rotors seem to warp instantly. After spending $400 plus on oem rotors and ebc green stuff pads everything was shot 1 month later and my front pads were only worn on one side of each caliper. My suggestion is to rebuild your calipers if your car has a lot of miles. It's really quite easy, only one seal and a dust boot. And also completely bleed out all old fluid. I personally got fed up and bought the baer track brakes and aem big rear rotors. It stops like a mother now. Total price under $1100 and it should last and perform for quite a while. To me it was a better option than $400 on oem stuff every 6 months or so.
