Dissapointed with Sportlines.

Well about 2 months ago i installed my KYB shocks and sportline springs that are supposed to lower it 2in well i installed my 17" rims which are basically the same overall size as stock and it didn't lower it much at all. I broke them in for 2 months and there still the same. like 2.5in of wheel gap. It sucks. My freind just put springs on his evo and it tucked the tires up perfect, a finger worth of gap. Anyone else have this problem??

Josh

You installed Sportslines and they didn't lower your car enough??

Are you sure you got the Sportslines and not the OE Sport?

Do a search. Sportlines have been said to drop 1Gs too much. Something definitely doesn't add up with your car.

BTW, totally the wrong shocks for lowering springs. Much more so if you are lowering more than 1.5".

I heard that the shocks and springs i have are a good combination, but anyways ya they are the sportlines (red springs) says they lower it 2.2 or so.

Josh

Those shocks are too long for the amount you're trying to lower the car. The KYB are basically an aftermarket replacement for stock shocks. Look into shorter shocks, like Koni yellows. I think Tokico shocks are also shorter, might wanna double check on those though.

Echo. Echo. Echo.

I've heard you like sheep. Does that mean it's true? Obviously not, right?

No offense meant. Just proving a point.

i thought all eibach's were red? maybe you got hosed and ended up with prokits

They are.

Here's another thought... research before you buy?

Well my feind said that i was supposed to cut the anti bottom out thingy smaller, and then i got another opinion, and he said because the coils are so tight and close to each other around the top, we can cut one of the sections of the spring to bring it down a lil.

Any input?

Modifying springs is always a bad idea, unless you are an engineer. If you cut the springs they probably wont do their job correctly.

i just installed my sportlines with koni's on my car and it looks the same to me. what the heck?!?!? and prokits are suppose to be higher?!?!? i couldn't imagine the wheelgap if that's the case. i checked today and i can put about 3 fingers inbetween each fender and tire. i got mine from tirerack and it says sportline right on the spring. are these things suppose to settle in after awhile or something? wouldn't think so. i researched for a good while too before deciding to buy these. and after buying koni's AND sportline's i would've hoped for a lower ride. what's the use of spending all the money if it's not gonna turn out like ya expected ya know? kinda pissed at the moment cause i don't have time to wait around on another set of springs or to pay for another alignment. someone please tell me these things are suppose to settle in or something!!!!!

wanna elaborate on how it could be the car? i put the springs in, it should be lower. it's not.

What I meant was that not all cars are created equally. Me and my friend have the same car but the distance between the wheel well and tire is completely different. We have the exact rims 17" and the exact shocks and springs set up. Well after some investigating we found it to be the shocks had blown in my friends. He rode around on busted shocks for month just because there was a 1 inch gap.

oh okay. i see whatcha mean now. but the differences ya'll had were because one of you had blown shocks though. but why would my car not be low like i'd think it should be when i'm seeing other people with about the same exact setup i have and it's a LOT lower than mine?!?!? uggghhhh!!!! just kinda ticked though cause i had been seeing all these pictures of people with sportlines and it looked really good. i figured it was a good enough drop for me so i opted to not buy the ground controls that i was ABOUT to buy. now i have these springs on here and it's not the same height that i see everyone else have and now i can't adjust it either and feel like i just blew away my money. see my point?

Well there is always the option of either bigger tires or EEEEK cutting the springs. I would suggest bigger tires!

well, being that i just bought a new set of rims with 215/45/17's i don't think i'm getting anything else anytime soon. and DEFINATELY not hacking up my springs. screw that. but guess i'm just outta luck or have to turn around and fork out the money for ground controls now on top of everything i've already spent. plus the money for another alignment. uggghhhh!!!!

the fronts yes. the rears no.....only cause it says i don't have to. but i can deal with the rear being a lil high. not the front though. so annoying

Did you guys clock the springs to make sure they're sitting correctly on the perch? It sound like the springs either aren't seated properly, you got hosed, or there are major quality control problems at Eibach. I've always cut the bumpstops in half when installing springs/struts. You can be talking about as much as 1.5" worth of bump stop. How does the car ride, does it feel like you're riding on the bumpstops? Lowering the car that much would have the outcome of very limited suspension travel. Very bad idea unless counteracted by shorter struts. Oh, and how would a blown strut change the ride height? As far as I know, the springs hold the car up, not the struts.

well, i've done many suspension setups in the past. even threw on some sprint springs when i had my eclipse and that was a 2 inch drop. even use to work at the dealer for a lil while. but this sucks. i cut a good portion off the bumpstop, the springs are installed correctly, and since i have the koni's.....they have a shorter travel. the ride is just fine and i have them set pretty firm. the rear are as firm as it gets, and the front were turned all the way firm and then turned back 180 degrees.

blown shocks/struts can lower a car. they do have part in height and can affect your camber as well. i know of people who take theirs out of the car completely just to have a lower ride. of course they bounce everywhere and probably not the smartest thing to do, but they don't care about that. my rear struts were TOTALLY blown before i just put in my new suspension. but putting in new one's shouldn't be raising my car this much. figured my car would be pretty low but i can almost put my whole hand inbetween the tire and fender.

I had Sportlines/AGX's when i first picked up my laser and it was pretty low on the 17's it used to have. I ditched them and got a much better setup for my interests (H&R/AGX's) and when i swapped the suspensions from my old car to the Laser the ld car with no motor was slammed to the ground almost front bumper was maybe 2" off the ground looked horrible (im not into the lowering thing). The shell was sold and the kid sold the suspension to another local kid who put it on and it dumped his car to the ground as well. Im not sure how old the shocks were but it definately lowered the car alot. Maybe it just needs more settlement time. This was on a 92 AWD btw.

I have Eiback Sportlines, they're definetaly Red, and the actual drop is 1.4 inches, the pro-kit drop is 1 inch, I also have kyb's and the car looks low enough and rides good too.

I like them because Its "lowered" looking but not slammed to the ground wich is better IMO.
