there is a nice clean 99 GST in my town for sail.I realy wana buy it but the only reason I havent done it yet is because it is FWD.Friend of mine have GST and he has about 200 WHP.The car spin tires on firs and second gear as soon as the turbo spin.He is getin tired of this shit because he build the car and now He can not enjoy the acseleration because the damn tires cant grip.He used to run 205/55/16 now he switched to 225/45/17 and it still spins on 1st and 2nd gear all the way from 3500 rpm till red line and the car is just not moving. We drive on second gear with like 30mph and when he hit it the tires spins and the car just siting there still moving with 30 mph. This is BS cuz he cant realy race from start.
Even if he launch it eazy on the very begining as soon as he hit full gas on first and second that is it,it just wont grip at all.Is there anyting we can do to take care of this cuz if there is I'll prolly end up buing this GST,cuz so far i have been looking for GSX only.Plz help. :(

Even wider tires, a limited slip differential, and a stiffer suspension is the best you can do. It will help out a ton.

even wider tires? how wide man, they will strech out , will be ugly  ,bout the differential: how much does it cost and where can i find it?

225-235 tires, lsd(limited slip differential), motor mount inserts, bushings, aftermarket suspension like springs and struts(struts being more important). With those mods youll be like a 6 out of 10 on traction on street tires.

Going to a larger rim does nothing positive for straight line traction, I don't know why people don't know this by now. You get less sidewall, which means less flex in the sidewall, which means a smaller footprint on the ground.

To tell you the truth, there really isn't a lot you can do to fix the shortcomings of FWD as far as street tires are concerned. You are always going to spin and spin HARD with a fair bit of power combined with FWD. I owned a Civic that made over 400 WHP, on slicks it ran in the low 11's and trapped in the high 120's to low 130's, guess what is the best it would pull on street tires? I just barely cracked into the 12's on one run, I think it was a 12.89 @ 130 MPH, spun like a bi***. IMHO keep looking for an AWD car, they are much more satisfying in the end.

BTW why is FWD worst than RWD? The RWD cars are lighter in the back while FWD are heavy cuz of the engine,so why is FDW worst than RWD when it comes to traction and launching?

What happens when you take off hard in a car? Does it feel like weight is being thrown forwards, or does it feel like it's getting shoved backwords? Think about it. When you accelerate hard it pushes weight towards the REAR wheels. Weight transfer means more weight and more traction over the drive wheels in a RWD car. Weight transfer in a FWD car means pulling weight and traction OFF of the driving wheels.

Get sticky tires. It makes a world of difference. I dropped over a second off my ET with them compared to street tires.

if you learn not to go WOT in 1st then wheelhop will never be an issue.

im almost stock, but even i used to be a heavy foot. things that helped were

- shifting at 4500 rpm before the wheelspin/hop got bad
- putting on heavier and wider 18" rims amlost alleviated my wheelhop/spin. the new tires grip like a mofo not only because they are new, but they are 1 inch wider.
- not going full throttle till 2nd helps. i usually only punch ist to get her moving from the launch, then i kepe the boost under 10lbs until i reach 4500rpm and hit 2nd then its on.

remember with a fwd most of the racing you will be doing will be from a roll. also most honduhs go from a roll too cause they dont have the skills to launch either. line up next to a mustang or camaro and you will need to do my above steps to stay with the game and not be left behind.

also motor mounts helped my freind out alot. he says going wot in 1st he doesnt ever have the hop. hes ordering a front strut tower brace to see if that gives him anything too.

I think one of your friends biggest problems with traction is his driving. You CAN'T give the car full throttle in first, maybe 1/2 to 3/4 depending on feel and road conditions. In second you have to sort of roll into it, and not just shift hard and put it to the floor. I actually don't mind front wheel drive after first gear. For a limited slip differential, I would check out turbotrix.com , they sell bm tranny lsd's . I have one but haven't gotten it installed yet. Test drive the car and see what you think, not what other people think.

i have driven both 2003 SRT-4 (w/o quaife) and a 2004 SRT-4 stage 1 (w/ quaife). The quaife LSD is a HUGH difference i can not stress how much better traction is, the tires just chirp and your off. If i had to do it again i would have gotten a Quaife or Kaaz LSD as my first mod. :dsm:

Well the thing is that im thinking about the future.Im planing to transport the car to my country in europe and sign up for the rally championship there. The think now is that the rally take place in the mountains on a regular asphalt roads, and since in the mountains most of the times u drive 1-2-3 gears cuz of the turns I was consern that I'll spin tires every time and will not be able to go into the turn and then accelerate hard cuz the damn tires wont grip. That is why I was looking for gsx at the begining.
