I'm in the process of ordering a set of new Rims, MachIII has Rota Subzeros at a great price, but they don't have the wheel I want available in the normal +45mm offset, they only seem to have the +48mm version.

I've also ordered a set of 8mm (5/16") spacers.

My question - will I need a new set of studs for the rims, or will they fit okay? If so, where could I order the studs?

Thanks!

Tim-

Thanks. 3-4 turns doesn't sound very comforting, especially considering that I'll be autocrossing the car.

I'm gonna try to see if I can change my spacer order to 5mm, which I hope would do a bit better.

Okay - seems my 8mm spacers were shipped out about an hour before I made the request.

They're of this type:

Now, can I go back and order 5mm spacers (of the same relative type) - or should I go and plunk down the cash for H&Rs that come with new studs, etc.

Basically, I'm on a pretty tight budget, but I don't want to be in a position where I'm endangering the car. What should I do? Did I just make an expensive mistake?

Doh - I forgot to mention that the rims are going to have 225/45/17 Falken Azenis Sports on them - I'm not sure how this would affect inside rubbing or not. Mike from Mach III said that a +48mm offset wouldn't clear my brake calipers though...

These are the 5mm spacers that I was talking about:

If you get the H&R spacers (which are better in quality anyway) they come with studs on them.

Longer studs definitly help but if your worried about putting the car in danger then simply dont run spacers. I personally dont think they are very safe and I have seen in person one crack in a drifting event I went to with my 240sx and have heard of many cracking and breaking in autocross events. If you was simply daily driving the car then Id say it shouldnt be a big issue to worry about but doing autox, I myself, would DEFINITLY not do it...just my 2 cents!

Hondakilla,

I do agree wtih you that its safest not to run them - but since thse rims are +48mm, I really don't have much of a choice unless I want to resell the rims & tires I just purchased. :thumbdown

That being said, I could see a drift event being a lot more stressful on the hubd & lugs than just a normal autocross event, especially depending on how wide the spacers are. I'm only looking to run 5mm, so its not a lot.

Well since you are pretty much forced to run spacers I'd find a nice quality brand and would get some longer studs. You dont HAVE to get longer studs but I would say that it'll help and worth the money for a lil extra security imo. Cheers!

I have the H&R 5mm spacers and yes you will need longer studs or risk having your wheel fall off.

Thanks. I ordered a set yesterday. Now I gotta figure out what to do with these 8mm ones that I ordered...

Howcome it says DRS only above 10mm?

anyone want some 8mm spacers? :thumb:

10mm is the track widening, so it's 5mm per side. 40mm is 20mm per side, etc.
