Are the sportlines too low?

I'm thinking about getting Eibach sportlines and KYB AGX shocks and I'm sticking with my stock wheels for now. Is it gonna be too low?

Too low for what? My friend's 1g AWD has Sportlines all around and AGXs in the rear, and while he needed a rear camber kit, it's really not THAT low.

Here's a pic:

Well I just don't want to be scraping off the ground everytime I hit the littlest bump.

It makes no sense to talk about ride height without - at least - also talking about the spring rates. (It would help to also talk about the amount of available suspension travel, but that can be sort of included in the spring-rates issue, since most OTS shocks for DSMs are about the same length.)

So, to answer the question: yes, Sportlines are too low for their rates.

ps. before you post a picture of your car to show us all how hot it looks slammed or tell me that your car on Sportlines rides great on the street, please take a moment to read the posting rules for this forum: performance is king. And Sportlines are not performance. And the reason is that they are too soft for that amount of drop.

whoa dude, calm down. You're making it seem like I'm a ricer :(

Would you suggest going with Eibach pro-kits or H&R sport springs instead?

i got the sportlines and tokico shocks on stockies.......handles great and rides good......perfect drop(not too low) imo.......but there's more out there.....just remember when go that low......u'll have to do camber kits front and back eventually....i did.....and still don't regret the drop......live in NY......so plenty of potholes have went my car's way.....but still tight suspension......and i don't rub or bottom out that much......maybe if i did bigger rims.......

HOpe ThAT'LL hELp:dsm:

I have a 92 Talon TSI with Sportlines and KYB AGX and I can say for sure that it's not low at all. Even with one coil cut off the rears (I know, not a smart thing to do) I have no clearance problems with anything on the streets like sidewalks, entrances...

On the other hand, my Ford Probe GT with stock springs and stock shocks is lower and scrapes off with anything on the streets. And handles better!!! So that gives you an idea.

I am calm, but thanks for the suggestion.

I was trying to suggest that you were modding your car without taking all of the relevant issues into account. (If that is what people mean by "ricer," then so be it.) In particular, I was suggesting that you focus on spring rates.

If you conduct a search, you will find lots of discussions of the merits of the various OTS springs. Cliff notes: only H&R OE Sports seem to have the right spring rates for the amount of lowering.

ps. I am about as far from being a dude as you can get and still be alive

Ah hah, so it's the OE SPORTS that have the 430/260 rates?

Would I need a camber kit front or rear for a mere 1" drop?

Probably not.

Jtoby, a specific question was asked and I responded with specific info, thanks for trying to turn it around like I was providing misinformation. You obviously didn't even read my post because as I said, it is my friend's car, and as far as I know, he hasn't scraped anywhere aside from a rabbit's head with his FMIC piping :thumb:

Though when i bought them i really didnt know much about spring rate, but i have the sportlines on my car, with Koni reds struts. I have had no problems at all. Yes i do need camber kits, those are going on in a few weeks as a matter of fact. But as far as the ride goes, i love the set up, corners nice, though i do feel every bump in the road. I cant complain one bit, im very happy with the set up.

Looks like I'll be getting sportlines :thumb:

i have sportlines and agx's on my fwd. a perfect 2 1/2 finger gap between tire and body. with the agx's on 2F/4R the car is stiff, but not too stiff. alot of that is due to the shocks though. on 1F/1R the rear is just a tad bouncy, i think the best setting for me personally for daily driving is 1F/3R. the car still is mainly understeer, but i can feel a big difference in the way the rear of the car responds to steering inputs. i of course still don't have strut bars or sway bars on my car at this time so i'm not surprised to find understeer.

The bouncey ride has more to do with the shocks than the springs. It means that damping is too low to slow the rate of the spring unloading on the rebound of the cycle.

IMHO, AGXs are not properly valved. You have to ride in a car with yellow Konis and compare to see what I'm talking about. Night and day difference.

god i wanted koni yellows bad, but $$$ whyz i settled for the reds, definatly happy with them.

Are the shock bodies on red as short as those on yellows? If so, then that is probably why they are working for you.
