How long do the stock shocks generally last?

My 98 GS-T has 76,000 miles, and I'm looking for justification to get new springs and shocks (probably Eibach/Illuminas). It doesn't ride particularly bad now IMHO, but I sometimes wonder if I'm just used to it, having nothing to compare it to.

When, on average, should the stock shocks be replaced?

LOL, no, no, you're 'sposed to say they're toast after 10,000 miles or so... see, I'm gonna print up all your knowledgeable, educated and informed responses and tack em to the fridge for the wifey to see ;)

You really meant to say they're gonna blow out anytime now, now didn't you? Better safe than sorry? Gotta replace em right away?

Dude, they're goin out soon. I woudl get a new pair because if they did blow soon, you'd be in load of debt!

springs last forever.

Which is why the corner-weights on your 10-year-old, unmodified car are exactly the same as when you bought it.

Yeah, right.
