Head Removal?
anyone know a good "how to" at removing a 4g63 head?
I got my valve cover off but I need some direction to taking off the head.

lol you better clear your weekend for a head removal.
i recommend taking it to a shop unless you've had expierence with internals  , you dont wanna mess up your timing and BAM snapped timing belt/balance belt

i pulled mine off two weeks ago, those dang head bolts are in there very good! cut open my arm on the cam gears not much fun. neosporin became my new best friend. its not very complicated. how did it go for you?

pulling the head is simple! Don’t make it such a big deal guys! If you only do what you have to, you can have the head out in about 1 hour and 45 mins.
Ok heres my “how to”
Before you start, pull fuel pump relay/fuse/enter dsmlink and deactivate the fuel pump
IE. Anything you feel like doing so your F/P does NOT come on! Then crank the car for a good 10-15 seconds (this will make everything much easier and a tad faster)
1- drain oil/coolant
2- remove radiator upper radiator hose (turbo coolant lines to if you have em)
3- remove Driveside motor mount (if you need details on this, take everyone elses advice, take it to a shop!)
4- remove/ cap powersteering lines and simpy move the pump out of the way
5- access you lower timing cover (if you need details on this, take everyone elses advice, take it to a shop!)
6- loosen your water pump assembly and crank pulley
7- remove acc belt
8- remove timing cover
9-remove timing belt (if you need details on this, take everyone elses advice, take it to a shop!)
10-Disconnect the thermostat housing from the head (without disconnecting anything from the thermostat housing itself)
11- disconnect everything else related to the head (TPS, CPS, Injectors, sparkplugs, etc.)
12-remove fuel lines (if you done the “before you start” this is EASY!)
13-remove vac lines from everything on the VC, Intake mani, TB
14- Remove valve cover
15- remove head stud nuts
16- take the head off the block….
17- light up a smoke for a job well... half... done (you gotta put that bitch back on sooner or later)
It may be a little difficult to pull the head off the block if its been on their since it was put their by Mitsubishi… lol so removing the radiator and actually standing the in engine bay may be an easier way to get a grip on it. (some will be more stubborn then others)
Hope this helps… not to mention, its about 1:30am, and I’m un-godly tired… don’t try this with only my list to go from… I could have easily missed a few things!

Ah first time for head removal took me 3 hours, now it takes 20-50 minutes and about a hour if it has arp headstuds.
If you where closer i would help.

I havent had time to get to my car or really anything yet will school owning my life. but Im going to try to get to work tomorrow. but I need the special tool to get off the head bolts... anyone know what that tool is and were I can buy it?

Pretty much, unless your talking about the Timing Belt tensioner tool. But theres "ways" around that.
One you have your timing belt off its pretty straight forward on how to remove the head, Ten (10) 12mm bolts that hold the head to the block aka Headstuds

I recently removed mine and it was pretty easy, just remember that the headbolts are ten mm and not thirteen like the haynes manual states.
