I am very new to the dsmtuner website. I thought I would start a new thread to show me blueprinting a 4g63. This way it is all in one place instead of pictures of my block and everything sitting around. I am in a high performance class in school and decided to do this engine. It is a 6 bolt 4g63. I am looking for around 400 hp. I am hoping to get some help from the experienced people and maybe some of the newer guys like myself can learn from this build. Thanks

Go to the tech guide section, that guide will better guide you toward your goal than what most ppl could say and end up confusing yourself with everyone different opinions.. The guide was done by the very ppl who are dsm experienced. Fell free to ask any additional question you might have. Hope that works for you...
 
No I am actually blueprinting it as we speak with the correct teachers involved. I am being trained by people with 30+ years of experience with race engines and a couple of people who are apart of drag teams. I am not looking for advice on how to blueprint the engine. I am making this so newer people like myself know how to blueprint an engine and can correctly disassemble and reassemble the engine properly. I was more looking for help in the performance area with a blueprinted engine as i go about my process. This was for educational purposes and for a learning experience. If I posted this incorrectly please let me know and I will correct the problem. Thanks
 
Remember blueprinting is rebuilding the engine with better-than-factory tolerances and custom specifications appropriate for a specific application, not just a regular engine rebuild... In other words NOT every 4G63 engine is going to be blueprinted the same, take that into consideration when making your thread as not to confuse others. Even three different 400hp 4G63 engines, one for a road race car, another for a street car, and another for a drag car are blueprinted totally different... Other than that keep up the good work..
 
Thank you for distinguishing those differences and I am sorry if I steered someone wrong in this specific instance. I am trying to be as complete and obvious as possible. This is why I stated my performance level at the beginning of the thread. I am doing this as a learning process for not only me but other people interested in this type of build. Every engine is different and can be "blueprinted" in a different way. My blueprint is for a "stock" with performance parts rebuild. I am trying to stay within original factory specs but might vary my specs slightly throughout the process. Thank you for pointing this out. I will definitely identify and make known of the variances different from stock spec as i know of them.
 
No problem.. You taking the right steps not to many gearheads take when rebuilding an engine. Most ppl think is as easy as an oil change or a brake job and most don't know the details involved that go into rebuilding a high performance engine. You are headed in the right direction and as a automotive technician myself I really give you two thumbs up as even though you are learning the ropes you are doing it the right way... Feel free to let me know if you encounter any situations or have any doubts, as ppl like you are the ones I like and enjoy giving them a few pointers here and there...
 
Thank you for your insight. But I am now shaping a 4g63 engine to my horsepower range. I appreciate your input. I am actually building the engine with a regular spec engine with upgrades and modifications. I will be modifying the engine in the following ways: 272 cams, port and polish head (took me forever)... this is the point im at. I have pics... I have pics and instruction on how to do everything that i have done.. thanks
 
Jafromobile on you tube did this in a multiple part video. Great video to watch. look it up
 
Thanks to all of you for the help. I hope I will be able to post some pictures soon. :)

Here is the engine block going through the heater/baker and the shot peen machine. :thumb:

Before doing these two procedures I made sure that I definitely wanted to bore and hone the block. If I was not going to bore the block then I would not have been able to shot peen the block. Baking the block also makes the metal stronger.

I should have started the post with the crankwalked engine picture. Long story short, I brought an engine in that was in my old GSX that I knew crankwalked. I thought that it wasn't that bad so I kept it around to rebuild. The one that crankwalked was my original engine that I brought to class. After visually inspecting the motor before starting, that picture is what i came across. So I had to go get another engine to do the class. I got a little ahead of myself and posted out of order. I scrapped the motor that had crankwalk and the pictures of it being shot peened and whatnot is the new (used) motor I picked up. Sorry for the confusion.

Even though I knew I was going to bore the cylinders out I wanted to see what my specs were. My bore spec was 3.3465-3.3476. When I measured it they all measured right around 3.3470-3.3475 depending on where in the bore I measured. The bore size was on the verge of being too large to just hone the cylinder walls. So either way, I most likely would have had to bore it out anyway.
