Hey all,

First and foremost I have been searching and reading for two days and nothing has helped.

Over the past four months I have building my gsT for 700hp and since having it stripped down to just the frame I decided to do a wire tuck and delete things etc.... Well two days ago I finally finished and went to start her for the first time and the car wouldn't even turn over. I didn't even get power to anything but the head lights and break lights etc.

The car would beep if the door is open. When I put the key in the ignition it would make a noise as well, but when I turn it over nothing happens at all. No engine light, no stock gauges move etc.

I am getting no power to the ecu power pins and or power back up pin. I am getting 12v at pins 4 & 8 on the MPI relay. All connectors are connected as far as I can tell and things that were deleted wouldn't cause the car to do this. It was simple stuff like egr, fpr, fogs, clutch fluid switch, evap, front o2 etc nothing of any need.

What I need help with is where should I be checking? I know this may seem dumb to you all, but you couldn't start to imagine how big of a toll this is taking on me and and I am beyond stressed out. I can't sleep at night and my past two days have been horrible because of this. I have a lot of sponsors waiting to see some videos and progress of this car before they sponsor me and help me go after fastest FWD DSM in the world. I really need help with this because my brain is moving to fast and I honestly can't seem to figure this out by myself and need your help.

I'm a novice when it comes to electrical so what I would need to know is exactly what wire to test/check and how to do it. I went out today and spent $100 on a dam multimeter to figure this out. When telling me what to, I would also appreciate it if you can wak me through it like; put the negative pin on pin blank and out positive pin on pin blank etc etc. Sorry if this all seems like too much but I need the help guys/gals.

I am going to be checking more in the next two or three hours and will be checking this every ten minutes to see if I get any replies.

Thanks a million.

Anthony B.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes I have moved it under the dash and I am getting power to the four big white wires yes. Other then those four, I haven't and don't know what other ones to check. I'm guessing your asking that to start at the beginning and work our way down the wires?

*voltage at battery..... Check (12-13v)
*voltage at fuse box.... Check (12v)

Anthony B.

If your getting power to the 4 white wires then no need to move down. Just ruling out the simple stuff first. Could open up your ECU and look for signs of damage.

Also check the starter to see if you connected the signal wire back up. I've left that off before.

Ok. So forgetting to put the starter wire back on would not give power to the ecu or make the car even click the MPI relay?

The starter wire us connected. All sensors under the good are connected. I'm not getting any power at all the any of the power pins in the ecu. Or the back up power to the ecu either.

I'm going to check for connectors under the dash because I literally stripped the car down and as of the the engine, drivers seat and dash is in. No carpet, panels, seats, hvac or anything else is in the car.

Update: 11-15-13 9:02pm pacific

In the past hour I unhooked the dash to get better access behind it to see if there was anything unhooked. Nothing was, so I put it back on. I also unhooked the ecu plugs and all other plugs to pull the engine harness to the drivers side to check the wires. I am getting power to the MPI/MFI relay pins 4 & 8. I traced back the rest of the wires and they are all connected to where they need to be without harm to any of the wires.

Since I'm not getting power to the wires that need I'm going to tap into a wire that is getting a 12v source and see what happens. I will be doing this in the next half hour, so if I shouldn't do this and it may damage something please someone tell me so I won't.

I'll update with the results. Also this is going to get solved and I will post back what the problem(s) was and how I got it fixed to help anyone else that encounters this as well.

Update: 11-15-13 10:14pm pacific

Recap: I have no power to the ecu pins 12-23 and no power to the back up power. I do have power to the MPI relay to pins 4-8.

I have checked my connections throughout the car and engine bay and everything seems to be connected and the wires are in good standings. I have 13-14v at the battery and have 12v at the the wires running from the battery (4 white ones). The fuses in the fuse box that was under the hood but now is under my dash are all good.

In the past hour or o I have tapped into a known positive 12v source for the ecu power pins 12-25 or 13-26 I get them mixed up. I know the ecu grounds are good because I am using them to check the voltage to said pins with my multimeter. I plug everything back in and grab my keys from my wife and try to start the car. Upon initial installation of the key into the ignition I get the usual beep. I then turn it over to the on position and I get nothing. I don't get any lights on the dash but the open door one because my door is open. The gauges don't move or anything. The MPI relay doesn't click and the fuel pump does not come on.

I've been really stressed out on this and am begging for your help. I don't know what to do. I checked wires a little when I woke up, then me and my wife went to get the 3D/4D ultra sound (which is the coolest sh!t I've ever seen), ate lunch, and I came home and worked on the car. I work on it everyday trying new stuff and can't seem to get anywhere. I know how to build the car motor/bolt ons wise but know slim to none about electrical. So anyone with the know how please chime in. Maybe I can get Steve to help me out??????

I know what you mean, but I did a really good job on the wire tuck and relocation and made sure everything was connected and it took me close to 60-70hrs to do it. If your talking about the big wire along with the other three with it that go from the fuse box to the battery then yes I did connect it. Can you be a little more specific to which wire? Like where does it come from, what does it go to etc etc.

Also on a side note I am posting this in the newbie forum to see if I can get more help there so please keep looking back to see if you can help.

There is a big wire that comes from the engine fuse box all the way to the inside Fuse box, It connects to the back of the fuse box (inside the car, left side of the clutch pedal)..

This wire carries the power for the inside of the car, accessories, instrument panel, etc, etc.

Check this out.

Automatic Dsm's

First pic, you will see a single white wire, that wire is the one I am talking about, its on the driver side and connect inside right on top of the fuse box.

I'll make sure to check today on that one. See the way I did it is very similar to the way the guy in that link did it. I made the cuts exactly where he did, so I don't think I ever unplugged that plug, but instead just cut the wire and re soldered it where I cut it. I labeled every single wire, even the ones I knew I was going to be deleting. I labeled both sides of the wires I cut and took the time and did it right to put them all back to there original wires and soldered them, heat shrink, and wrapped everything with some pretty expensive fire retardant braided wire loom. If I was going to cheap out on the wire tuck and relocation I wouldn't have token the time nor spent all the money to do it, but I did, I don't half assed anything when it comes to my DSM.

I will be getting back into it today and the first thing I'm going to check is what you mentioned. I'm also going to try and get a schematic, even though I probably won't understand it, and read through the whole cars schematic to know what wires go where.

The thing I want to try and solve right now is the ignition thing. After that then I will cross that off my list and work on the next problem. I honestly think this has everything to do with me turning the key over and not getting anything in response, IE; MPI relay clicking, fuel pump coming on, dash lights etc.

Do you think that wire you speak of would cause all this to happen if it were in fact unplugged. Because I get a couple lights on the dash to work. I can lock the door from the outside and the factory alarm light illuminates and the open door light illuminates as well. But other than that I get nothing. No gauges come on or anything. And now that I think about it, shouldn't my aftermarket gauges come on no matter what? As long as the key is switched over correct? Now I think it is that plug you think of or at least the problem with turning the key over and getting nothing. Because I do have power at pins 12-25 on the ecu now and I always had power to the MPI relay pins 4-8. So I'll be pulling the fender off because I am going to check to see if I did re solder the wire and I'll be checking to see if the plug you speak of is indeed plugged in or not.

Thanks a bunch for helping me on this. I really hope this solves it so I can't get this thing running and then I can show my sponsors (or the ones who want to sponsor me) I have what it take to go for the "Fastest FWD DSM int the world". And I can get my 24.5 cage too!! Cross your fingers and lets hope this works.

God Bless,

Anthony B.

You sure that ecu is ok ? Its hard to trouble shoot this kind of thing over the internet ..

Not to burst ## bubble but kiggly will be on top of the fwd game till he retires..haha. Get a low 9 though and u can be the west coast fwd dsm king...

Hope ya work it out first race is in jan.

ECU has nothing to do with the gauge and ignition not having power.

OP.
The wire I am tacking about is the one supplies power to the inside, the MPI relay has its own power directly from the engine fuse box, so thats a seperate line.

If you cut the wires close of the fuse box as you said, then check current at the engine fuse box, you might have the fuse blown.
The fuse is label as fuse box B, this fuse bax b is the one inside of the car (the one with the wire Im talking about.
It there is current on the line by the engine fuse box, then check the same line where it connects to the b fuse box (one side of the clutch

Pip: I here you on that one. But actually Kiggly is helping me out. We have talked on the phone and he has been a great help so far. But trust me, I'm not giving up until I'm at the top. The ecu is good btw.

Miguel; I'll be sure to check all this when I get home. Thanks for all the input you have been a great help so far and I'm sure we'll figure this thing out.

God Bless,

Anthony B.
