hey every body this is my 96 eagle talon TSI AWD street build. im looking for slick, clean and a sleeper for the most part. so heres alittle history on the Talon. ive had the talon for about 2 years now and have wanted to build it up since the day that i got it. i picked it up from a older man that had gotten it for his 16 or 17 year old high school son. when they got the car it had a fresh rebuild and not even 500 miles on the engine, tranny, transfer case, and rear differential. needless to say his son did not take very good care of the car. hit a few curbs so the front bumper starting to fall off so he put the LeBra on it which i asolutly hate but its keeping the bumper held up for now. the original owners told me the rings were shot and pretty much seized up and wouldnt turn over, he gave me the keys, i turned my truck around becuase i was sure the battary was dead. hooked up the jumper cables, checked the oil, coolant, etc. tried to start it and it turned over with no problem. just seemed like the battary needed alittle more charge. other than that sounded pretty good for the information i had at the time. i waited for a couple more mins, tried to start it again it fired up but had alot of white smoke. so only let it run for about 15 or 20 seconds. i told him that im not to sure what it actually needs to get it going until i get into it. it could be easy and could be a PITA. he was asking 1300 for the Talon. i told him "well if you want an offer for the car, i can make an offer but it wont be your askin". i waited i few seconds, he said "ok go ahead". i told him ill give you 500 cash now and ill put in on my trailer. he began to tell me that somebody offered him 700 so hell "think" about it and get back to me later that day. i told him that was just fine. so i left. i got a call from the guys son, and he told me that the other guy didnt have the money and couldnt for a few weeks, he then told me that if i could give him 550 then the Talon was mine. ofcourse i took it.
until just a few weeks ago ive just been doing little things to it. had the engine pulled and partially taken apart. things just kept coming up to where i had to put it on the back burner again and again. and thuaght that its getting old. i need that car up and going, i want that car up and going. its my 1st AWD for christ sakes.
so my 1st chapter as you would say will be the engine. last week i torn the head down, pulled the crank, pistons came out as well, pulled the balance shafts and all the front casing apart to do a much needed balance shaft delete. and do you remember when i told you that the original owner told me that the pistons were fried? well i got pretty lucky and the just had some carbon build up. turbo has ALOT of shaft play as i found out. rings didnt look great, but that could have been cuased by the 16 year old kid not breaking the engine in what so ever. so i preceeded to order,
-EVE brand rings
-BSE kit
-ACL race main and rod bearings
-complete Green Performance engine gaskets with stock style head bolts (which will be left on the shelf for this build)
as i was saying before, when i got everything apart i noticed that everything was in pretty good shape besides the obvious.
i installed the balance shaft delete kit over the weekend except for the stuf shaft that comes in the kit. (no oil galleys) i ordered the 1.6l mirage stub shaft so it should be in thursday or friday and that will get finished up. should have the piston rings, rod and main bearings in soon hopefully. well honestly i allready got both of them last saturday but they were both std size and i needed .020" rings and .5 over bearings.
so im planing on going further then just throwing in the rest of the stock parts. heres a small list from my list of things to do
-ARP head studs
-ARP main studs
-stainless intake and exhuast valves
-BC or HKS 272 cams
-BC TI valve springs and retainers
-ARP exhuast mani and intake mani studs
-aftermarket exhuast manifold (havent looked into brands just yet)
-Big 16g turbo, maybe a 20g
-full 2.5" or 3" header back exhuast
-speed density or 3" inline GM maf/translator
-FMIC and 2.5" UICP and LICP
-Eprom ECU with DSM link just becuase its more user friendly
-walboro 255 fuel pump
-AFPR (probably fuel lab)
-1000cc injectors
this so far is what i kind of have in mind of the top on my head. theres plenty more i know but im sure your getting tired of reading this. so yeah. i try to get a few updated pics up soon. thanks for reading my book.
heres a couple of pictures from the day I got the TSI home
this is the TSI as it is now. I liked the white rimed but they wont go with my white on black look
