Ottawa,
I know a good place in Ottawa, Ontario that has several automatic eclipses (2g) and I want a 5spd, the thing is eclipse's are extremely price'y and hard to find in Ottawa especially turbo. :cry: (Eclipse owners in Ontario im sure you know)

I was wondering the following...

For people who have done this conversion;
About how much did it cost?
How long did it take?
And are there any pros or cons to this?
and anything else that would be helpfull to me

PLz help, thanks
Adam

Im just about done with my conversion now. Im doing it on a 97 GSX and the conversion itself is not really that hard. The only really hard part that Ive come across is finding all the parts. That alone took me over 3 months. I got all of my parts out of a wrecked 98 GSX w/50k miles for $1000. That includes axles, drive shaft, transmission, t-case, rear end, pedals, shifter, shifter cables, and all of the other little stuff that I needed. The only other things that I had to buy separate was the flywheel and a clutch kit. Now the only thing holding me back from completion is the clutch kit, I have every thing but that. Im sure its going to be worth the hassle and money after its finished. And for a total cost, I would say between $1600 to $1800. I really dont know what a mechanic would charge to do this swap but I would say around $500. I got a buddy that is helping me so its saving me a few pennies there.

This has been a largely discussed topic. Could you document the procedure and parts list needed for the swap and post it? It would be much appreciated by myself and the rest of the 2g DSM community.

I just completed the swap on my 99GSX, well worth the $$$, time and effort. Cost me about $1300 to do the swap shopping around for the parts. Everything works fine except Cruise Control, which I do not use anyway.

Just do some research, and searches all info is accessible and it is not a hard job to do. The hardest part is getting the car high enough off the ground (16") in my case.

Yeah, its well worth the cash!! I will try to get back in a few days with the parts list. I had it printed out somewhere and I lost it OMG No big deal though, I will find it somewhere.

Thanks man!!! I have been wanting to do this ever since I bought my DSM two years ago. The parts list will really come in handy. Do you have any documentation on the procedure and/or what did you use to complete your install?

Damn, irn_man hit that one right in the head. I didnt really document it but I can tell you that it is not all that hard. The only thing you really need is a good place to work with good tools and a good source to get the car as high in the air as you can. Makes it a little easier and makes the process much faster. I also had a good friend who is a great mechanic helping me through most of the work. And another thing, make sure you get all of the parts listed before you even think about starting. You dont want to go what I went through (wrong axles 4 different times). That said, good luck and keep us posted.

If any of you guys have part numbers along with the parts list it would be greatly appreciated. It would definitely speed up my time. I have been looking through my Haynes manual and shop manual and it looks like something myself and my mechanic buddy are capable of doing. Looks like I have a new project for this winter!!!
