Edwardsville,
Ok, my transmission been through a good bit. First i had the cabels replaced over a year ago, because well i got drunk, passed out, and a dumb chick drove my car, and i couldnt get it into second after that. It worked smooth for awhile, and then it became hard going straight into first. I got a new centerforce duel friction clutch. That made it all better too. I also put in a shortshifter kit. Anyways, the clutch is pretty much fine, some people say its wierd, but u cant go into 1rst with out going into 2nd first. Has any one else experinced this? Maybe its my shortshifter kit not working right? I made sure the clutch wasnt sticking on left turns, and like i said the clutch is pretty much fine. Anyone else have this problem? My buddy (93 stealth) has the same thing but not as bad.

ok what is that? is it really bad or can i keep just shifitng 2nd to 1rst which really isnt that bad, cause im so use to it. Well what should i do if anything?

again, i dont know the specific details, but the synchros basically just "guide" the gears and if they are worn out this could be your problem.

This happens to me (and a lot of other dsmr's) with Reverse, but if i shift into 3-4 first and then reverse, it wont grind.

Also, check your clutch fluid level and slave cylinder for leaks.

Have you ever changed the tranny fluid??? If not, try some GM syncromesh or BG snycroshift.

I took my car to church the other day just to get it out becuase there had been so much f****** snow!~! but yea i realized when i start my car whail its in 1st or reverse depending on hill that it doesnt seem to shift as smooth as when i start in neutral so maybe this could be your problem i know it was mine everything is fine when i sart in neutral but yea....thats my little problem  :dsm:

I dont know about 2g but on my 1g the clutch petal shaft is worn out and doesn't disengauge my clutch all the way and I get grinds from that. a way to check and see if your clutch shaft is worn is when the car is not running, press the clutch to the floor let it out and with your foot see if you can pull the petal up any more, if you can more than your shaft needs replaced. mine is so bad that it wont engauge the cruize control switch.

thanks alot for the all the help. I will check the clutch pedal shaft trick next time i drive. I think alot of it is the short shifter kit i put in. Me and my friend negletced a washer that helps keep the shifter from being so wobbely. When im in gear, theres alot of play in the shifter. So I will try that. Also, I always do start my car in neutal. So thats not it. We are gonna fix the shifter soon and hopefully that will take care of it.

yeah man I wouldnt worry about the synchro's to much, unless it grinds real bad. the sync. springs are probably just getting worn out. If the tranny has quite a few miles on it then this will happen to just about any car.

I recall reading from somewhere reputable that alot of shifter problems (my 91 awd..) are caused by bad guides in the shifter assy. I have probs with in2, in5, rev. Anyone ever tried to change them?
