Hey i was wondering whats the symptoms for having a bad center diff or t case

are they similiar?

would either let u still drive the car...but with noises?

I know when is shot but i would figure the center diff if it was blown wouldnt let u drive the car at all

My t case does leak and i actually think it is bone dry and thats why its real messed up.

My cars pops and clicks and sometimes doesnt accelerate untill it pops back in. Im thinkin its the t case

When it pops and clicks it feels right under neath my foot...not by th eend of the trans where the diff. is.

It depends on how both have failed. Failed center diff usually feels like you are driving a 4x4 (it skips in the turns).

Transfer case can fail for two main reasons:

-Broken output shaft (from abuse, like: hard launching)
-Seize due to lack of oil <<< VERY DANGEROUS!!!

That second mode of failure is the reason why there has been a major safety recall in place on 90-97 AWD DSMs since 1997.

If you even suspect that you are driving around on a dry (or damaged from previously running dry) transfer case, you are risking your life EVERY TIME you get into that car! I highly recommend that you take care of it as soon as possible and NOT drive it until you do…

If your T case is dry it is not joke. I had mine go out on my on the freeway at 60 miles an hour. I left skid marks on the free way for a good distance. I was very lucky there wasn't much traffice and i was able to pull the side of the road before it locked up on me. It starte to lock up at 60 but didn't fully lock up till about 15-20 sec later i was able to get it down to 30 and pull to the side of the road. DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR IF THE XFER CASE IS DRY. There have been deaths becouse of it.

I think I'll be the one to say this:

IF you have been driving around with the xfer case empty, and KNEW about it, you need to get an IQ test done.

Now, you could be a little more descriptive about what is going on.

uh i didnt know it was empty...i did know it was faulty...but it was only splashing a little...

i filled it up and whiped it down it seemed to stop then i just blew it offd...i guess it started up again

now i checked tonight its blown for sure its that and not the diff...

there was gear oil everywhere tonight..its going to chrysler tomorrow...and they will be fixin everything it damaged for free :)
