Hello all. I have a 1993 talon TSI AWD 5-speed. First off, i know the problem of my grinding trans is the first speed gear and the 1-2 hub and sleeve. The problem I am having, is that when I try to order the hub and sleeve and syncro rings, there are two options. One is a "single type 2nd syncro ring," and the other option is a "double type 2nd syncro ring." That's all the detail the chrysler list gives. So how can I tell which type I have!!!!? I didn't think that chrysler offered a stock double syncro'ed 2nd gear! Thanks for the info, thats all I need to get this thing back together and rolling for the winter.

Yes some DSM's came with double synchro 2nd gear stock. I just dunno which one's. Take your tranny apart and see which one it is.

I do have it apart which is why I know those parts are garbage. Problem is I don't know what a double one looks like. I think it's a single type but I want to be 100% sure because once I get the parts they are nonn-returnable. I'll try to find a pic of it online, otherwise what is the main difference between the two?

I found this on the shepard racing site. The picture caption says this is a double syncro. In reference, mine looks nothing like this; It doesn't have the additional cone it looks like the shepard picture has in the middle. So the way I understand it is I must have a single type. Interesting to know that a double syncro was offered stock. Anyone know which models it was offered in stock or what the trans code is? Thanks for the help.

I was under the impression 90-92 had single and 93-up had double.2nd gear is a biatch in the 1gs

If you dont have the double, reference the part number for the gear that the doubles syncros and then reference the single syncro gear... if the gear P/n is the same, go ahead and get the doubles... nice upgrade.

I did in fact reference the part numbers and everything from the syncro rings to the syncro sleeve, hub, and gear are all different part numbers. It would have been nice to get that done to it; would have helped in the autox. It would just be way too expensive at this point for the condition the car is in. BTW: Anyone have a way to ID a tranny using the trans code stamped on the thing? I think I might have a 92 trans in a 93 car:barf: Thank for the help.

Indeed, my trans turns out to be a 1992 year while my car is a 1993. The trans is stock in the car though, never been replaced. The third gear syncro confirms this. Just another boneheaded thing chrysler/mitsu did; Mix up trans' and year models. Guess I learned from this one, getting the correct parts has been a disaster!
