90 N/T Laser won't shift into 4th

Hello all!

I've found the answers to many of my probs just by searching, but I'm baffled by this one.

I've got a 90 N/T Plymouth Laser RS. Finally got it running good by replacing my coolant temp sensor. Now it's refusing to shift into fourth gear.

I pulled the cover off the tranny and checked the retaining nut as the Vfaq said if there was abnormal movement, and it was tight. When I do get it into 4th, it pops out. On about the fifth try, it stays in (until I get stuck in Orlando traffic ). Any ideas? Thanks!

sounds like a bent shifter fork, what happens usually is. If you hit 3rd gear real hard it bends the fork more towards third, and then when u go to hit forth it is just a wee bit shy of engaging it all the way so it shoots it out of gear when u pull out the clutch

try putting it into forth with some FORCE, kinda ram it down, then pull ouot the clutch and if it stays in more often than it does when u gently put it in it is probly a bent 3-4 shifter fork

I have a similar problem but mine wont stay in any of the bottom gears (2,4,R). It feels like I am squshing a rubber ball. When I pull back it just goes back to the normal position. I think it might be a messed up cable because it goes into 1,3,5 just fine. Perhaps the cable is goofed and it pulls fine but wont push. Any ideas would be great.
