Hi. I have looked trough dsm.org, vfaq, 1000 top dsm ?s, and searched this site before posting. Will a 1g 4bolt awd rear diff fit on a 2g awd? Are there any differences between the two? Mine has gone out and I found a nice 1G rear diff for sale...

they are geared the same. I have asked the same Q before but the other way around. From what i was told the axels wont fit diffrent lengths, but i never got around to checking i found a 1G 4 bolt and i bought it.

Problem is I can't find a 2g rear diff, have found a few 1g's...

No beater, to be honest, here is what happened. I got arrested. Car was impounded. I can't say whether it was towed correctly or incorrectly, but the nasty whiny sound started when I got my car out of the pound. Already replaced bearings, still have the problem.

The 1g diff is lying around waiting to be sold.

I have access to a lift.

So, I understand that the gears are the same, but still not sure if one will fit or is worth putting in a 2g.

from what i understand both the 2G and 1G rears can take the same amount of abuse. I think the shafts that go into the rear end are diff lenghts from 1G to 2G

It whines out the rear? Usually a towing mistake is if they tow it dolly style instead on a flatbed. That will kill the trans case or the VC. Not the rear end. Weird.....

Bumpity, bump bump- on this thread..

Has anyone found this out yet.. I have the same kinda problem, and my rear diff is non lsd, and I can find the 4 bolts verry easily. I even have the whole 1g rear diff subframe assembly in my garage, waiting to be used.. Or for sale...
