You will want to keep your 96 2nd gear. Pick up a set of double syncros and a new hub slider. The hub and slider is the same from 91-99 the double cone syncros will be the same from 93-99. You will want to find a late 91/early92 3/4 gear set to swap in your tranny. You will need the shift fork and shift rail and the intermiate shaft from that year. keep your 5th and 1st. You can buy a kit with new hub and slider and syncros from mitsu for 3/4 for around 150ish I cant recall exactly. With this and a welded diff you will be good to go for 500hp all day long. Be sure to set your preloads correct that will be the factor that will make or break your tranny.:thumb:

To swap a gear set over from 1-2G you really need to know what you are doing. Sometimes the gear helix angle is different, sometimes the shift rail ends at the shift shaft are different (but don't look like they are), the shift forks can be a different size, 5th/R hub and slider along with case end cover, etc. Just make sure you take a very close look at everything. It can be done, and is not that bad, but for the first time DIYer it can be tricky.

You can not swap AWD guts into a FWD trans. They are a totally different animal and it has been discussed all over the place.
