I can't get my 1990 talon TSI AWD to go into 1st or 2nd gear anymore, unless i take of in 3rd and downshift into 2nd once in a while I can get it to downshift into 1st but it usally just grinds. Anyways I have been looking for a used transmission, but everyone wants to know how many spline I have. Is there anyways of knowing without takeing the tranny out ? And does anyone think I dont need a new tranny ? Thanks for the space.

90-91 had 22, 92-94 had 23 splines. For it to bolt up to your T-case you need a 90 or 91 Trans basically.

Ok I found a tranmission that is 23 splines a a resonable price he also has a transfer case for a extra 100 bucks . If I buy both will they work in my 90 talon no problem ? And is there any good or bad thing about the 2 different spines ?

"So i cant put a '91 GSX tranny in a '90 talon tsi ??"

That is exactly what I'm in the middle of doing right now. You can but you have to pull the shaft out of your old tranny to match the transfer case in your 90' talon.
