manual tranny fluid

I am changing my tranny fluid this weekend.
First off i just want to make sure that Dexron is the right type of fluid.
I do want to ask how much fluid I need, I have 5 quarts, but when I looked it up in the manual it said 2.? quarts. Is this right?

Dexron? I believe that's automatic transmission fluid. By looking at your profile I see you have a Centerforce clutch so Im assuming you have a 5 speed. Anyways, try some Pennzoil Syncromesh or some BG Syncroshift found at www.roadraceengineering.com

Dexron is for automatics (ATF, Automatic Transmission Fluid).

Pennzoil Synchromesh from Autozone is cheapest, and in the running for best.

the tranny takes 2.3qts. I went with mobile 1 synthetic gear oil, works great!

thanks, i thought that 2.3 quarts was a little on the low side. but if that's the amount you used then I read right. As far as the type of fluid, thanks for your all's help. I'll be making the exchange tomarrow

Alright I'm about to change mine tomorrow, I have some extra money after buying my dejontool intake pipe and I HATE my 2nd gear grinding. I haven't changed my tranny fluid yet alone look at it since I've bought the car (Feb 2003) so I think I'll do it to see if this will fix my problem. I was under the impression that you would have to use some kind of pump to refill the fluid, but I went <a href="http://www.myzero.com/drivetrain/trannyoils.html"target=new>here</a> and it seems like it's even easier then changing your engine oil since you don't even have to jack the car up. So after school tomorrow I'll go get some Redline MT90 and do this, seems simple enough to do.
