I bought my car with an ACT 2100 6 puck  which was fairly new. Last week I started hearing a small grinding/clinking sound (not loud or harsh sounding) when I let off the gas in 4th or 5th gear. The sound is coming from the engine compartment, not below or behind me.

Is this just clutch chatter that has developed over time, or possibly a trans or flywheel problem from the 6 puck? The trans is rebuilt with BM tranny parts with the stock housing.

I also want to get rid of my 6 puck soon, so what are my options as far as not buying an entirely new clutch? Could I get away with buying just a 2100 street disc and installing that on pressure plate I have now? I know a 2600 would be better with my setup, but I'm short on cash right now and don't want the 6 puck to blow my trans. Thanks.

It's ok to swap the 6puck out for the ACT organic as long as your PP and flywheel hasn't started to warp. Pull the tranny, put a straight-edge on the pressure plate and shine a flashlight on it. Check from the opposite side to see if a lot of light is shining through.

So only a 2100 disc will fit on the pressure plate I have for the 6 puck right? Hopefully the flywheel isn't very worn, but if it is will it need to be resurfaced, or replaced?
Anybody know what that sound could be?

Other discs made for your car will fit also, but you might have disengagement issues if they are too thick. For example the stock mitsu disc will fit, but it might not release very well.

The stock flywheel should be resurfaceable depending on how badly if warped/worn. I doubt you'll need to if you haven't put many miles on it.

As for the drivetrain noise...it's a solid 6puck...you'll hear everything.

Youre a little confused let me try to help. The presure plate is what is rated 2100 2600, thats the pressure the springs are putting on youre clutch/ flywheel. the clutch has no rating as far as pressure goes. the clutch is either a street disk, 6 puck or even a 4 puck, but for our cars you dont ever want to get the 4 or 6 puck, it really does damage youre tranny. Just get the street disk from act here follow this link.

its only 120.00, but make sure you get youre pressure plate checked, since it is going to be out of the car anyway, and the flywheel. take it off if you have to.
Good Luck....

Thanks for the info. As far as the street disc goes, I know almost everyone with AWD (not stock) goes with the 2600. So would I be better off going w/ the 2600 PP and street disc, or could the 2100/street disc support my setup? I haven't taken the car to the track yet, but I plan to down the line, but not very often. I don't go around launching all day or power shifting so will the 2100 PP be ok?
