is changing ur rear axles from 3 bolt to 4 bolt extremly difficult time consuming, and costly? or should i just replace the broken 3 bolt axle?

you can't just change the axels you need the whole rear end. If it is your first time doing it set aside the day and it would be good to have a friend help you out that rear end is heavy. It took me and my friend about 4 hours to do the work. Its not that hard just some bolts are a pain to get lose. If you need in any on it let me know i will answer any Qs you have i just did mine about 2 months ago

how much money was the parts? and just outta curiosity do all 1gs got 3 bolt of just the 90's?

92-94 dsm's have 4 bolts, mine has a 4 bolt rear from the factory
and if u launch the car its worth the effort to swap in the 4 bolt, breaking an axel is the least of your worries, if your 3 bolt rear breaks or seperates it will be a far bigger problem then a simple axel

how much it costs depends greatly on where u get the 4 bolt rear from, if you get it from a junk yard or out of a car someone is parting out it wolnt cost that much, if u want to buy things new then ur looking at a good ammount of money
and i believe you will need to replace both rear axels with 4 bolt ones, i think they are slightly bigger, but i could be wrong so dont quote me on that

i picked up all the stuff from a guy selling it for 400. The only things you will need is the rear end with the axels and the end caps. The caps go on the rear hub and convert them from a 3 bolt pattern to a 4 bolt one. That is all. There isn't much to it, it just takes time to do the work and its kind of hard to find a 4 bolt unless you don't mind buying one online. in all you will be looking at about 400 for a complete 4 bolt rear end.
