recommend california shop for awd conversion? dyno tune?

Be super cautious; definitely check the BBB regarding any shop you are thinking of using. Do some searching around on the board and you'll see various discussions of this topic. There aren't, in my opinion, any really good shops up here.

If you are thinking of major work, check out Road Race Engineering in SoCal; they have a terrific reputation.

Road Race Engineering has done a couple Spyder conversions to AWD. One owner lives here in VA, and seems happy from his posts about it on the local mailing list. I've never seen the work firsthand though.
